So, while deployed you have a lot of time to think.................................about motorcycles!!!!!!! That's exactly what I've been doing. I love my '93 VFR and it's staying in the garage. I would like something that tours better with a passenger though, FI would be great!!!! (effin hate carbs), modern electronics and looks would also be nice to have. Price, I would like to buy with cash so around $6000 but a lil financing would be alright for the right bike.

I'm also 6'3" so a taller bike would be nice to have. I think most importantly though, a bike that isn't the same as my VFR.

Here's my list of bikes I'd like next to the VFR, thoughts?

    2013 Ducati HyperStrada
    2013 Aprilia Capanord
2013 Triumph Tiger Sport 1050 (might not be sold in USA)
    2013 KTM SMT 990
    2010 Buell XB12X or XB12XT (Uly)
    2012 Councourse 14
    2012 Ninja 1000

Notice, non of the above are really cheap but all come or can be had with hard bags. All are defintely bigger and better for two-up riding (I think at least).

I guess I could just spend $4000 for a well farkled 6th gen VFR with bags and shut up about it. Hmmm.

    So, what would you do?

If you are looking to tour with a passenger as your primary use then Concours hands down. This is NOT a boring touring bike. A couple of guys I ride with have them and they are crazy fast on them.

The Tiger's a great bike and the 1050 goes back to 09' I believe and didn't change much. It has some nice bags, would be decent for 2 up touring and give you a little more flexibility.
The Concours goes back to 08' and in 10' worked out a couple of small bugs.
If you go back a few years those should get close to what you want to spend and compliment what you have.

Yeah, the 2010 Concourse has a whole lot of goodies on it for the price and power.....wow! I'd probably hurt myself. I've visitied COG a few times to read up on what owners have said and they all seem to sing it's praise. It does seem very big and heavy though.

FJR? No way. I don't like the FJR or ST. Niether do anything for me. they seem closer to a Goldwing than the sport touring side.

I have to agree with smiley. My god father had an '08 then last year bought a 2012 concourse. It's a damn fine bike.

I just want to clarify that I know nothing of the other bikes listed as options. I have never ridden a Concours, but I have seen it dust my ass in the twisties.

That Ninja 1000 is pretty sexy. Never ridden one. It has gotten high marks in all of the reviews I have read.

Also, the bikes in your list could very well be more than 6K. So you will have to finance a little amount.

interesting that the vfr 1200 isnt included in that list. me and my ole lady 2up on my 07 rwb all the time and we are quiet comfortable. in fact, one of my favorite things bout my viffer is that now she will ride with me. she would rarely go out with me on my harley but now she always wants to ride. but we leave the harley in the garage. we do poker runs as often as possible and ride all day whenever we can. i think its a great 2up bike!

f.y.i. i am 5'10", 180 pounds, she is 5'8", and a "top heavy" 130 pounds. and she is a good passenger. always in "rythm" with me. i guess all that matters more an a smaller bike

I just am not a big fan of the VFR1200. Now, I have had a 6th gen VFR before and the wife and I could pull 300 mile days on the stock saddle with relative ease. I have thought about another 6th gen with bags and I could probably find one for around $4000. It is on my list though. I kinda wanted to do something other than the VFR though. Why? just for something different I guess.
