Picked up a red 5th gen yesterday to be my buddy's next street bike. Shows 127,000 miles on the odometer. Haven't snapped any pics yet but she runs strong, despite leaking fork seals. Has braided lines throughout the brake system.

    Anyone know this bike?

I don't feel so old now. Give us a run down on its shape as you go.

Overall she looks really very good. Left fork seal shot - so we pulled forks and disassembled. Stock internals it appears. Will rebuild those tomorrow. EBC Prolite rotors on front and EBC pads all around. Will get new pads tomorrow as well.

All fluids happening tomorrow. Tires mounted in the morning. With any luck we will get her all buttoned up and cleaned. Chain and sprockets are in really good condition, must not be all that old.

    Super surprisingly good find...

Pics from when I first unloaded her:

Status as of Friday a.m. (this is my buddy's bike now - he's doing some of the work, both bike lifts were occupied so we're working in less than ideal conditions).

Bike is all back together now with fresh fluids/rubber save for the forks. Have new seals but nicked a slider bushing during reassembly - will have to wait for those bits to show up. Overall it is obvious this bike was loved. Braided lines everywhere. Reg/Rect appears to be upgraded. Oil and coolant looked near new, as do brake and clutch fluids - but we're swapping all that anyway. This was a nice, cheap find.

Yes, Dave owns the bike now (well, technically no cash has traded hands, but it is his bike).

Bought it cheap I think...cheap enough I'd keep it if Dave were to back out.

Haven't you heard? Profit is frowned upon in this country now - not allowed!

(selling it to him at my cost - just helping to grow the VFR flock)

    Where did you buy it?
I know a couple members that have high mile 5th gens, but pretty sure they wouldn't be selling them.

Bay area - near Antioch. Not from the original owner - story goes this chap bought from the feller that put so many miles on it. Knocked it over in his garage once. Only put 1,000 miles on it in 3 years.

She's back together - all in we're at $1893 including purchase, fuel to retrieve, fresh rubber, fresh brake pads on all 3 pots, new air cleaner, replacement right side fairing, new fork seals, bushings and oil (didn't need bushings until yours truly botched one up with carelessness). Came with a cover and a battery tender. Pretty good deal if you ask me. Rode here tonight and bedded in the new EBC pads on the ProLite rotors and all is well. Nice and tight VFR.

Nice catch! Was a long day yesterday. Guess I overlooked that when we slid the forks back together!

    Easy fix today.

Squeezed a quick ride in last weekend, up 341 to Virginia City, down the backside (truck route) back up to VC and then blast back to Reno. Got Dave to come along on his new VFR, a buddy let on his SP1 and I chased on the CB250F. Dave had a great first real ride on the old VFR. I'd like to say she didn't miss a bit - but we did have a goofy restart issue that has to be tied to either the neutral switch or sidestand switch - surely an easy item to sort. Going to get her back out this weekend and give chase on a newly completed RC31...
