Just bought an 84 700. Haven't ridden since '94. Turning 50 in may.

I haven't licensed it yet and was doing laps around the shop in our construction yard. I managed to slide the rear tire just a bit on a sandy patch of pavement. It gave me pause for reflections and a bit of a pucker.

    Stay upright my friends...

This whole thread needs some viagrafication IMO. How bout we add "How many:

    A. Younger old guys
    B. Older young guys
    C. Chicas of both persuaions

    ride VFRs?"

    harleydoods need to apply elsewhere.

Bought a 2000 VFR in November 2012 and took it out for the 1st time this weekend. Last time I rode was 28 years ago on an RD 350. Spent 2 hrs cruising the countryside on Friday afternoon and another 2 on Saturday afternoon. I am turning 50 this May and looking forward to riding this bike for alot of years. Handles amazing.

I am 57 and love my 1996 VFR 750...I started actively riding 17 years ago and have owned over 30 bikes in that time....many of them Sportbikes....also ride a 2008 Kawasaki KLR 650 and a 1985 Honda 150 Elite scooter. I was riding a 2009 BMW R1200R with ABS brakes, traction control , heated grips, bags etc.....absolutely loved it and thought it would be the last bike i ever owned. Last summer i came across my 1996 VFR 750 with only 15000 miles in perfect shape. I spent the rest of the summer riding that bike everyday. It is sporty , yet comfy, powerful yet easy to ride and control, it looks the part and the V4 motor is something else....The VFR is one of the best bikes ever produced and can be ridden and enjoyed at any age. Bottom line , wife complained i never rode the BMW and so I sold it to buy the KLR and bank a lot of money.....The KLR on the other hand is another amazing bike that you can just ride and ride and ride....I consider myself lucky. The Honda Elite 150 scooter is also an amazinfg bike and what esle do i need to say....it's a Honda....paid $ 900 bucks for it.

Bought my '99 in '99. I'm 59 now. I suppose in a few years, I'll be able to claim I'm an old guy on a VFR.

OK. So, I bought this 99VFR recently...without knowing that I am the typical buyer for this bike. Older, slightly less snooty than the BMW GS crowd, (Had one of those, but hated it in dirt and sold it within a month) with little desire to wrench on my bike and even less desire to own anything undependable! Now I find out that this bike is a very good fit for me no only demographically, but also in my riding style. I get her when I realized that I was just not disciplined enough to slow down off road. Old? If you are not afraid to drag the pegs or cruise at 120mph for 5 hrs straight...then you are not OLD!:chaingun:

UPDATE: Fast Forward 3 years! I just turned 50 back in September.

I did buy that new 2007 RWB back in Feb 2010 after posting that! Sold the Ninja.

Have not regretted it once - Since then, Man, i have learned a lot - Thanks to this forum!
Trying and buying gear (helmets, jackets, gloves, boots, pants, rain gear).
What to wear in what weather!
Removing plastic without breaking clips, , Oil changes, (not starting new oil threads on the forum), battery charging, new tires.
Being smarter in traffic. (Defensive driving). Driving and parking in different situations. Carrying a passenger.
Learning to be more efficient when commuting.
Rode to Spearfish and Devil's Tower (Sturgis) with a group of HDs and a Victory "space ship".
I bought Scuba Long's used hard bags, and removed my rear fender thingy and mounted them myself.
I guess I got about 12,000 miles on it now....

I'm looking forward to when it stops snowing up here - maybe another week???

The "Depends" brand fits me better. I prefer the low-rise briefs!

Adult Pampers? Who needs 'em? Just aim your bike for the little thunderstorms that pop up around here all the time. :rain:

I'm 67 and working on my sixth (1986) and seventh (2007 RWB) Interceptors. I'v been riding since I got out of the Navy in 1966. I can't remember how many bikes I've had. Only two wives, so far!

I think my wife, at 62, is immature. She rides a Ninja!

I don't think you're too old for that bike. Quite the contrary. Tell her this is a gentleman's sport bike.

I'm 56 and some change and just transitioned to the Interceptor because of it's great lines, wonderful handling and predictable manners.

Heck, the wife should be pleased that her training is clearly paying off!

Excellent topic. Owned Sportbikes my whole life, and played at New Jersey Motorsports till I totaled out a BMW S1000 on it a couple years back. Sold my 2008 CBR1000 a few months later and picked up a 1200F. After riding it a few years picked up a 2012 CBR1000 on a whim. Living them both, and the VFR just had a beautiful time over Memorial Weekend tearing up Tail of the Dragon. Just turned 40, and kicked the ex to the curb.

    Single, spoiled and loving life!

67 and have and 06 ST1300 and a 05 VFR. Retiring at the end of the month and will sell one bike.
Guess which one. You got it the ST. I have put a topbox on the VFR for my wife. She wouldn't get on
the VFR until I got the topbox. Now she says that the VFR feels the same as the ST. I will add Spielgler
LSL handlebars next week for me and will be ready for touring and sporting. I love both the ST and VFR
but am partial to the VFR...lighter and more fun! I plan on riding until they drag me off of the bike.
