My bike has been sitting for a few weeks. Now, when I start the bike, the clutch feels like it has nothing to it. When I shift from neutral to first, it's like I'm dropping it into first without using the clutch. There is fluid in the master cylinder. The clutch feels like it's extremely soft, nothing to it. The next step I'm considering is bleeding the clutch system. Any recommendations?

    clutch problem

    Yurmainman,

How much fluid is left in Master Cylinder? If it is less than original. Where did it go? there are no pads which wear like in the brakes which will cause fluid level to drop as pads wear. Bleeding the clutch hydraulic line sounds like a good place to start. In a bike that old seals may have gone out on piston of either cylinder. I had to rebuild both the master and slave cylinders on my 86 VFR700F2. clutch was all soft as you describe and would not engage. I had let mine sit up for several years. no time to ride. but I am Back and I have a new well 2006 VFR800 which I ride often. I see you are in New Orleans, when you get your clutch problem fixed we should meet up or if you need help I'd be more than glad to lend a hand. I know that there are several newer VFR's in town. But I don't know any of them. I have lots of spare parts for the 86-87 vfr's, no plastic tho, but other parts. Mine is apart in my sister's shed, exhaust leak on right rear cylinder.

I agree with danimal, especially look around the piston on the slave cylinder. that's where I found my leak when my clutch didn't work. a $15 rebuild kit from ebay and she was right as rain.
