    Thanks!

I'm still in break-in mode so I haven't even touched 7k. I don't see myself spending much time north of 6k anyway since below that it has more power than my VFR could dream of. I will admit the inline 4 doesn't have the soul of the V4 but it's not bad. With the M4's on it has a nice bark.

Garage time today sucked. I was cussing within the first 30 minutes and now I'm stumped. I'm getting the starter solenoid click when I try to turn it over. I did a load test on the battery (dealer did the test) and it checked out fine. I pulled the plugs to see if it would turn over with them out and nothing, just the solenoid click. The carbs are still off, I rebuilt those with new jets and float seats and needles.

I don't even know what to check next. I'm getting tired of putting money into it. I'm worried that when it first hydrolocked due to the leaking float needle it may have messed something bigger up inside.

    Suggestions?

Sorry SD no suggestion for your current problem here....but...

I love that 3rd gen bike. Obviously you do too. I'ts probably worth a lot more for you to keep it around than for some random chump to take it and wrap it around a tree. Just sayin...

On another issue: if i was buying today the Kawi 1000 is on my short list (2-3 bikes). The newest design makes...200 hp at the wheel? Yes please. Hope you enjoy it!

Jumped the solenoid and got nothing. Pulled out the plugs and starter and turned the engine by hand. It only turns over 2 times before it locks up so something is locking up the engine. Great, exactly what I didn't want to have happen. Guess I'll be digging a lil deeper.

Kawasaki calls everything they make a Ninja ... Why, I don't really know. The funny thing is no one I know calls these bikes Ninjas afterwards, aside from the small displacement ones like the 250 and the 300. Ninja 500 is usually just called EX500. And the SS are commonly called ZX6-R or 636, ZX7 or ZX-1, etc. Nobody dares to use the name Ninja for some reason.

At any rate I was looking hard at the Ninja 1000 as a future bike. Don't like the no temp gauge thing, other than that seems like a great machine.

You answered your own question... there are so many Ninjas out there that it's not descriptive.

If I tell you I have a VFR, it narrows things down, if I tell you I have an FZ1, you have a good idea of what I ride. If I tell you I have a Ninja... it's not enough.
Could be an old Ninja 250, and could be a ZX14.

Handling and suspension are superb on the VFR, the bags integrate into the motorcycle seamlessly, vibration is minimal, and the DCT gives the rider many options at the twitch of the thumb. Considerably more expensive, it has the quality and technology to justify the price. We’re sold.

No good news. Engine is locked up so I'm parting it out. I put a post up in the classifieds last weekend. Kids going to college, moveing and buying a house in year I don't need the added stress.

How's the Ninja now that you're a few weeks in? I sat on one at the Indy GP and really like the position. The insurance just kills me man. Where do you go through and what do you pay? Last year I got quotes from $4,000 to $12,000. YES, that is not a typo... 12 f**king thousand dollars a year. I literally laughed at the agent on the phone and told her what she was basically telling me was I could go out and buy a N1K and not insure it, and then on the 1 year mark throw the thing off a cliff and march right to the dealer and purchase a new one. I had her laughing at that one. Thank you Kawasaki for putting the ZX acronym at the start of the VIN...

It's not the state Scub. It's the bike and how the ins companies have it listed. Search in google for ninja 1000 insurance, and you will get tons of forum threads about the problem. For reference I pay $33 a month full insurance for the Monster....

Squirrel, the N1K has a claimed 138hp (123 on the dyno), which is hardly 200hp.... :suspicious:

The Viffer 12 has like 40 more crank hp!
