To each his own, but when I'm scraping pegs on my Wing riding the Tail of the Dragon, I'm feeling pretty active and alive. Yes, I prefer to ride the twisties on my VFR ....
(Last fall, riding the BRP, we were barely out of Cherokee, when an HD in front of us failed to make a curve and ran off the road, and, lucky for him, hit the side of the mountain instead of going over the edge. Bet he felt pretty alive - and wet in the britches - when his HD went off the road. LMAO.)

I bought my first bike, a 1991 VFR750 age 23. A hell of a place to start, and quite an introduction indeed to the world of motorcycling...

Now soon to be 27 and riding a 1998 VFR800fi. As a contrast to being told that I'm too old for my bike, my riding buddies have almost all tried to tell me that its an old man's bike. They tend to be a little less vocal on the subject after them and their VTRs, CBRs 1198s et al have tried and failed to "show me what a quick bike can do"!

Hehehe. Gimme a twisty road and dry tarmac and see what my soft comfy old man's bike can do to your sportsbike's pride...

Thing is, if you've got more performance from your ride than you can realistically use on a public road, then it becomes not about how much you've got, but about how you use it.

Only problem now is - where to go from here? Every time I think about replacing my VFR, I reach the same dead end - What with?
It does everything I ask it to perfectly. I could buy myself a Blackbird I suppose, but what am I gonna do with a 186mph top end when I don't use my current 156mph one...

I actually replaced my 1993 CBR1000F (precursor to the Blackbird) with the VFR. As far as I'm concerned, that WAS a step up. As to what to replace the VFR with .... I've had it for 14 years now, and I'm still trying to figure that out.

I just turned 60 in May. In June i bought a 1985 VF700F. I had an 84 a couple of years back that I sold. I have really missed that bike. My Wife asked me back in 1976 while we were dating if I would always have to have a motorcycle and cars with spoilers and mag wheels (thats what we called rims back then)? I told her I did not see me driving a Cady and no bike. Well here I am at 60 with an Interceptor and a Mazdaspeed Miata, and a 17,000 mile 1986 Dodge Shelby Charger. She can never say I ever mislead her.

That's the question TWO V or not TWO V...

Actually I look the classifieds every morning to see something SPECIAL to move forward ... something that shake me, like "gear driven cam" ... "PRO-ARM" rear suspension.. "Linked Brakes"... Sport, Charm.. elegance... POWER, TORQUE, Fuel Injection.. Low maintenance, decent consumption.. respectful top speed.. comfort for passenger, adaptable to long trips... suitable for track..

Simply TOO MUCH in the same bike...

I have the 1998 FI, I know that may sound disrespect for some members.. but... for me... it was the last REAL VFR concept, the V-Tec killed almost everything, and now the semi and full automatic, plenty of electronics are erasing the real idea of the VFR, the one that born as legend.

Honestly from my point of view.. after own a RC36, and a RC46, the only logical evolution is a NR750... the only way possible to evolve. But we're talking of +$100K, there is NO OTHER BIKE BRAND that have a 100 grands specime into the SERIES MODEL. none definitively. Just Honda.
In the meanwhile collecting these bucks, I enjoy this beauty jewel.. irrepetible, that cost me about 1900.

    I'm 48. Got a 92 that i've had about six years. I haven't ridden it much lately, but as i'm selling my last mistake,(Victory CrossRoads),and I had a 09 Tiger 1050.

It's not worth much, but I doubt I will get rid of it.

I'm 24 and love the bike.

I ride with sport bikes all the time- and on the weekends I can do a 200mi fun day and they can't.

Speaking of old guys and bikes, the little missus and I were heading to a funeral last weekend. It was for the father of my best friend who had tragically suffered a stroke the week before. He was a wild man! I mean we are talking about a hard drinking, hard partying, rock and roll Bob Seager loving dude. Bikes, dune buggies, sleds and big trucks were his passion and he was still driving big rigs just for fun into his late sixties. Quite a character to say the least, so instead of a solemn tear filled day at the church, we had a huge party at the cottage in his honour. This is the way I wanna go when my number is up.

So that's the old dude part but there is a bike component to add so hang in there cause I feel like I'm loosing you a bit.

The party was about a four to five hour drive from our home so we reviewed our fleet of vehicular mayhem and decided to take my wife's Mini Cooper instead of the bike. We had to make the return trip the same day so the thought of sitting on the back of the VFR for more than 8 hours in a single day was more than my wife could take. Then there is the whole hair thing......surprising how much their hair factors into how a day plays out! Anyway, as we cruised through the countryside in the Mini, wit the huge sunroof open and windows down, we started to catch a bike which had a rather large trailer behind it and two, not so small individually perched on top. The bike was struggling against the grade and the heavy load that it was carrying. As I passed this beast in the Mini, I said to my wife, "I think we are having a better time than they are"! Then I reached for my coffee and took a sip. LOL I guess it is safe to say that I don't plan on touring on the bike with my spouse when we retire!!

Sounds like your best friend's dad was stroked but hardly bored.

I'll chime in... turned 47 a month ago and just bought my first VFR... about time!! Too many of my friends are getting fat and boring. I should note that I do plan on getting younger every year now.

Don't worry, there's more of us!

I'm 44 and I ride an 85' 500 that I found almost mint in a friends barn. It was the bike we all dreamed about when we were in High School.

Every time I get on that bike, I'm literally living a dream that I appreciate so much more at this age.

And tell your lovely wife that the amount of guys our age that beeline out of they're way to reminisce is unreal!

Hey. Score some points with her. Find out what the gals liked back then and surprise her with it!

Gotta run. My youth is just outside the door. Good Karma.jpg
