Good deal! Have fun with the install. Good times, wrenching, esp. in a heated space.

Baker VF500....Interesting that you found the tensioners at Western Hills Honda in Cincinnati. This dealer is located about 30 minutes from me, I have bought bikes and parts from them over the years. The owner is a terrific and very knowledgeable guy and is always willing to help. He has a huge stock of NOS and used parts as well as a large collection of salvage bikes and factory service manuals. Another nearby dealer that has a lot of NOS parts and a HUGE stock of used parts and salvage bikes is Thornton's in Versailles, IN. I worked for dealership in the mid 80s when these first came out,was not uncommon to replace tensioners under warranty. This was a common problem for all the first v fours.
be sure you get the guide in the holder in the case,Sometimes it feels right but easy to miss.
Also check the cam holders for wear, the cams would wear the cam holders because of the design and when you adjusted the valves the actually be to tight ,the had a service bulletin on this,Honda came out with a tool to pull the cam up so you could adjust the valves.

Just an FYI - The common understanding is to NOT use the cam holder when adjusting the valves. I've never used it and not had a single problem on any of my VF's. Over the years we have found that using the tool causes more harm than good. Again, just an FYI.

Yes ,I agree,Using the tool would cause the valves to be too tight, as was found when the valves were checked,i only used the tool to verify cam wear, well actually cam holder wear ,Sometimes you could work on the caps to take up clearance,Just a poor design of another wise good motor,
    I have owned 2 500s ,2 vfr 700s ,1vf750 ,1 vfr750 a 1vf100f and 2 vf1000rs,
I think they are great bikes but the first generation had many cam issues and tensioner problems,

hey, did you notice that the timing marks TF and TR used on page 9-4 aren't used or referred to on pages 9-21 or 9-22 according to the correct head vs.timing mark position. hmmmmmmmm
