My '06 has approx 20k on it and has run like a champ from new. Recent battery replacement, oil/coolant change as well as rear pads and valve check showed nothing out of the ordinary. The bike is ridden in all conditions (sun, rain, etc) and has never failed me.

The other day I turned the key to "on," the run switch on and pushed the starter button. Nothing. After a couple tries it fired right up and runs fine. It has done this about 10% of the time over the last week. The "FI" light goes out when I push the starter button and nothing happens-after a few iterations of this it starts. It has never cut out or stumbled while running, just the occasional failure to start-hot or cold bike. Any thoughts?

I used the search function but cound't find anything useful. Thanks in advance for your input.

Do the lights all light up when you turn the key on and maintain a constant brightness? if not the I would look at the charging system. Battery(make sure it is charging propperly and that the terminals are tight)/RR(by getting a voltage tester and reading it while it is on and not running and when it is running to see if it is faulty)/Stator(doubtful but hondas are know for issues).
If the lights come on and the cluster is fine then I would suggest that you check your kill/run switch.(they go bad on diff bikes all the time) It might have a loose wire or faulty connection.

Take a look at your side stand kill switch and give it a good clean up, also might want to open up the main kill switch and give it a good clean up as well. Occasionally it fail and need to be replace. This does happen to couple of members here.

I second the switch cleaning thing. That was the first thing that popped into my head. Go for the easy answer first.

Happened to me once. It was the kill switch sticking. Cleaned it up and never used it again.
