From there we go on to meet Fredsncoma and his family. Until I saw the Welcome to Nevada sign, I had no idea we were leaving the state. Anyway, they set us up real nice with beer and great food. They were very hospitable to a bunch of smelly tired bikers. His brother was even nice enough to let Long have a very special photo with him, or at least with part of his anatomy.

    Here's Shannon's dog with a toothpick.

    Thus ended Day 1.

More pics from day 2 soon.

    Day 2.

We were up pretty early. Probably 6ish but those of us with ears had probably been up since 2-3 stuffing any type of earplug that might fit in our ears to no avail. We decided to hit the road and try and make it to Johns quickly rather than do a lot of sight seeing. We needed a recovery day and there was an in ground pool and cold beer waiting at his place.

We skirted Tahoe and I'm pretty sure I caught a glimpse of it on the way by. Has anyone mentioned that once John gets going, he's hard to get stopped?

Lets just say that my VFR is not altitude and slow speed friendly. I had a hard time keeping it running through town at Lake Tahoe. Once we got out of town and started our descent it got better, but it was touch and go for a bit.

We made it to John's by or before noon I think. Jason had been ragging on me about my bike being dirty for a few months so I told him to clean it if he wanted to. (Luckily for me, he knows how to wash a bike standing up rather than on the side like Brian does.

I told you you didn't want to know what happens with Snuggie buddies:

Even Brian tested out Long's new appropriately sized bike.

Did anyone mention yet that when Long first jumped on the little bike he revved it up and popped it into gear and popped a wheelie heading straight at John's pickup? Yep. He did.

The next photos I have are from day 3 due to the inability to operate a beer and a camera all day. I had to prioritize.

We proceeded to party all day in and out of the pool as the mood struck us and we had a damn fine time. Again, a nice spread of food was put out and we ate well. (I actually gained 2 pounds on this trip...not that I needed it).

I ended up sleeping until 2am out on a chair by the pool. It was quite nice until the dog decided I was an intruder and wouldn't stop barking until I came back inside.

    Day 3.

I think I was up by 6 or 7 and guzzling coffee like a fiend. The morning shower rotation started whereby Jason noted the peculiar operation of John's shower but chose not to share with Long. Those of you who have used a shower where you pull down on the bottom of the tub spout will know what I am talking about.

Anyway, Long did not figure out how it worked which we found out after he came out later saying the shower didn't work. He apparently worked out his shower by squatting at the drain and splashing water over his head.

Anyway, after breakfast we all decided to take 5 down, then cut across to 101 and keep heading south breaking off at hwy 25 to get some curves in. The first part was uneventful, but shrtly after making our way onto 680 I noticed John being sprayed by the windshield washer of a car up ahead. I was a good ways back, but I could see the wipers going and knew what the driver was doing. This is a game maybe some of you have seen.

After a few times being squirted I saw John pass on the left and tell the driver he was number 1 by showing him 1 finger on the way by. I didn't want to fart around with the guy so I proceeded to lane split by on the right and get back in the group with John and Brian. A minute or so later the guy cuts 3 lanes blasts up then swerves over and looks at me and starts swerving into my lane like he's going to hit me expecting me to move.

Well, now I'm a bit pissed. I hate when people don't see me and cut my lane, but I hate it even worse when they look at me and do it so I do the responsible thing and I repeatedly kick the shit out of his door while his girlfriend screams at him while going down the road. Yeah, I know I know. Save your lecture. I was pissed and I know what I can and can't do while riding. If he really would have connected with me, I would have moved over. Brian saw what was happening and went to the other side and popped his mirror down to get his attention.

At this point I thought it was over, but he decided to ride my ass for a while acting like he was going to ram me. Apparently my ignoring him there wasn't sufficient so he came back onto my right side and started cutting my lane again while looking at me. This time I had had it so I tried to kick his mirror off. I think he and/or his girlfriend figured out what I was going to do because he swerved away from me and stayed away. This has been going on for a few minutes I guess. John is tired of this dude so he wicks it up a bit and we moved on through traffic like only a motorcycle can (or so we thought). The guys keeps following us for a while but we keep up the pace until we can get a good gap on him then we exit to 101 and keep moving south until we pull over for a much needed break.

Now, I'm no lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that a driver is not authorized to attempt to kill a motorcyclist for lane splitting so I think I'm justified on kicking his door. Did I mention this genius was driving a car with a business name and phone number on the side? I sure wish I had a video camera going at the time because I was definitely ready to press charges.

After our sanity break we make plans to get the hell off the highway for a while and work our way down to Hollister. It's pretty warm, but we decide to go ahead and top off and then have a bite at the 19th hole in the little town just south of Hollister.

    Here's Long enjoying his meal.

Then we head on down 25 and I shit you not just about have the road all to ourselves. It's a little warm, but it's deserted and awesome.

Some little kid was following us on a GS.

We keep on trucking until we come to the cutoff for King City where I cut across to go fuel up again. No I'm not kidding. Fuel was my largest expense on this trip (and that includes beer which gives you an idea of how much fuel I used). Now the little kid on the GS is kind of slow so we all wait at the turnoff for him to catch up then proceed through the pass and into King City. We literally had just slowed down to almost the speed limit as we were coming into town and a CHP cruiser was headed out of town through the pass. We had to buy the little kid a beer for keeping us back for a few seconds extra.

After topoff we discussed the plan and decided to bomb it down 101 at breakneck speed because the temp was climbing and we were all near or over 1000 miles already this trip. We made it to my place, hit up the liquor store and bought some meat to burn and started the festivities of day 3.

We even found a drink Brian could stomach.

All in all a good trip with some good folks. 3 days of crazy high temps, crazy high shenanigans on and off the asphalt leaving an intense feeling of satisfaction. We probably took 1000+ curves sweated 1 gal of sweat each and drank tens of gallons of beer and gatorade on this trip.

    Would I do it again?

    Hell yeah.

Great write up guys. Sounds like a fun trip. I hear ya about the heat. Saving urine to drink later is a great tip and can actually sound pretty good on 1000 degree rides. Thanks

You guys give each other the golden shower? Sounds like it was a great time. That run in with the cage was bizarre. I think I would have been inclined, as a group, to form up behind him and just keep following him for as long as you could. Think he would probably be shitting bullets byt that time. Either that or loading them. You never know down there.

Excellent write up, very funny and sounds like a great trip, except for the Ahole in the cage cutting you off; and I never realized that Long was so photogenic! There's that great shot of him in his shorts and thongs on the FJR, then asleep on the couch, and then chowing down, but him posing in the shower, well he is one handsome fellow!
    Thanks for the entertainment guys:smile:

I have no recollection of this photo....I was taken advantage of, drugged, groped, and then forced to drink stale urine....I mean, Coors Light for days. It was horrible....a person cannot shower long enough to get clean after being voilated and used as a "pinup" like I was.....now I know how Long feels each day.

well it's not too hard to persuade the group I was with to take a trip. Every one of us has been on multiple 1000+ mile rides.

I think Randy's spell check thingy is goofed up and what he meant to say was " life is to precious to miss out on hanging with a bunch of alcohol infected buffoons"..........where do we sign up? And on a side note to all the buffoons who enjoy a really good IPA, Stone brewing has just released it's 17th anniversary IPA, they call it Goderdamerung and it's just topped my list, better even than Racer 5! Be careful it's 9.5% Sorry for the slight high jack but an IPA loving buffoon would want to know.

Oh what a difference a state makes. Lane splitting is not legal here in Texas. They have a bill before the Texas House that would authorize such actions but I fear it would lead to road rage as you described. Cagers don't seem to like our agility in the best of times and passing through traffic, while they are stuck, seems to infuriate them. The second issue is one of weapons. Around here you never know who is packin heat. Here, that guy who tried to kill you might have found himself face to face with a bit of nasty killing machinery from someone's tank bag. The revers is true so you have to weigh that before playing Road Warrior. It tends to make people more polite, at lease when they are thinking clearly. As for being " justified kicking his door," I am not going to preach because we all have been there but the goal is to ride hard, have fun and live to do it all again.

This thread is all about beer and bikes and buffoons so it can pretty much go anywhere. That being said, I need a comparison between that IPA and Double Jack from Firestone. Double Jack is the shizzle.
