Hello all! New member. PICS and a question.

    Hi folks!

I went on a ride yesterday (skyline drive) and took some photos I thought you folks might enjoy. I've been meaning to join here since 2010 lol (when I bought her). Here's some pics.

Any who... On my way home I got pulled over... Apparently my rear running light went out in the middle of the ride and officer friendly noticed. He told me about It and let me go on about my business. Might be a fuse or something?

The only mod I've done was to gut the exhaust. I have photo dosimentation of that process but I'm sure you folks have already seen that a bunch of times from other members and what not.

    Welcome to the MadHouse! :welcome:

Nice looking ride - especially as red is definitely the fastest:potstir:

As for the tail light, if it was working at the start of the ride - chances are its just a blown bulb.

Sounds like you have some decent LEOs in your neighbourhood.

    Take care

Thanks for the welcome! The red makes it look fast even while its parked LOL!

The tail light still works when the brake levers are activated. So it's just the running light. As there is no light eminating from the tail light unless you press the brake. All of the other lights work. I haven't had much time to fiddle with it yet (none actually) so it may be something stupid...

The LEOs had their hands full around here last night. Labor Day. My guess is they had bigger fish to fry then me and my stupid tail light. There were tons of people with flashing lights behind them in the little town of front royal. Probably looking for drunks.

Welcome aboard. Nice ride. Not that fastest color, but still looks sharp.

As for bulb: Maybe you just burned up a couple bulbs. I just had one go on my 2000. Brake light is fine, just no running light (there's actually 2 separate bulbs, and one works, so technically I have a running light).

I believe in starting with the cheap fix. A few buck for a couple light bulbs is easy enough. My problem was solved.

Thanks guys. I will check the bulbs first. If it is the bulbs then two of
Them blew at the same time. Given my luck that could certainly be the case.

Well I had to make sure she was tried and true before I became a fanatic. So I put the VFR through the ultimate ringer.

And she didn't disappoint. Quite the contrary. Handled the dragon extremely well. Also handled the 8 day motorcycle touring/camping trip leading up to the triumphant first run. I think I ran it 8 times or so.

In any case I'm glad to contribute. So if any one is interested on my take of gutting
The exhaust let me know and I will put a thread together.

Where you at the dragon in mid July? I had a buddy go and say that he saw like 5 diff VFRs on the ride. One was red...

BTW Welcome to the forum you will enjoy and get loads of info form some very informed people. Expecially about the VFRs. We know other bikes too but most(if not all) of us are real V4 lovers....

Other folks will be along to tell you detailed troubleshooting steps, but stat with the basics... bulb socket, fuses... hopefully it's not the regulator/rectifier. When things start blowing, it may be a sign that the RR is going, and it usually takes the stator and battery with it.

I'm sure you've seen the threads on that.

I'm a wire guy by trade so I'm liking some sort of short in the wiring for this. I'm hoping its something easy. I do like a good challenge but not when it comes to problems with my bike. Thanks for the welcome guys.

Digging up an old thread... It was an intermittent wire problem. Found by testing the power wire with a multi meter and shaking the wire. I don't like to dig up old threads but I hate reading electrical/ mechanical threads with no resolution.

I get all wired when I read those kinds of posts. IF, you ever need to change the bulbs, I would spend the few extra bucks and get the dual intensity LED lights. Then you never have to worry about them burning out. I have replaced a few incandescent lights since I ride in quickly changing weather which is very hard on lights. One time I too was pulled over at 03400 by a LEO while I was driving on an unlit freeway. There was no visible presence of me from behind so I was quite thankful he pulled me over. He pulled a bunch of that reflective tape off his traffic cones to put on my bike until I could get it to work some 40 miles away. Nothing is open around here at 3am.

Just take one of your tail/brake lights out and take them to your local auto-parts store who will have a suitable replacement there. They are readily available. They use basically the same bulb in a bike that they use in many applications in cars and trucks. That is what I did. Specifically, I got mine at Lordco Auto-parts which you do not have down there. Just makes sure that you tell the parts person you need a dual intensity bulb suitable for combined brake tail light situation. If he does not seem to understand, then he should be flipping burgers and let someone who knows their stuff sell auto parts. Then find another store.
