The service manual states (p5-56) "Always replace the packing with a new one.", It then shows a picture with an arrow pointing to the packing and says "NEW" as in replace it. In the microfiche, I don't see anything called packing. I see the metal scrubby looking thing which I think is the Fuel Return Filter 16714-MBG-000. There is also a Fuel Pump Unit Rubber Set 16716-MBG-305, could that be it? I just want to make sure I replace everything the manual states to. Which is the Banjo Bolt Sealing Washers (2), Filter, and the "packing".........just need to know what part the packing is. Thanks Brian
It is a sorry picture but I think they are referring to the gasket. From a s safety stand point I could understand them wanting that replaced every time it was removed.
Here are some pictures, I am not sure if these are 5th or 6th gen, but you can see there are two things. 1) The white square pad looking thing, and 2) the metallic scrubby looking thing. Do you get both of those items if you order the "fuel return filter"? Or are these two different parts, I just don't see anything on the parts diagrams that clearly shows what they are. It would seem to me if your changing the fuel filter, may be a good time to change that white pad looking thing.
Anyone know? I am sure the "fuel return filter" is the metallic scrubby thing, but is the white square pad looking thing part of that? Or a different part?
