Mine was probably my first bike. I wanted a track bike to go racing or do track days on. I was 19 and didn't have much of a budget... or patience to find the right bike. I found this 1999 R6 out of state for $1500. Seemed like a deal at the time for what was told to be a clean bike. The guy already had race fairings on it that he apparently decided to paint (red flag #1). I drove to Michigan to pick it up. Everything looked clean and it started and ran just fine in the middle of winter. Took it home with me. Got to looking at the bike and realized that the forks didn't look quite straight. It wasn't super bad, but the string test quickly made me realize they would need replaced. Later found out when stripping all the fairings off it to do some maintenance that there was a giant gash in the frame. F**K! The frame was powdercoated and you couldn't see the gash under the fairing. I then realized it was not safe to track so I sold it to some bike wholesaler for $100 less than what I bought it for and washed my hands of that bloodbath....

I literally had the bike so short, I don't even really say that I owned it. I only ever rode it once down my neighborhood street, that was it. I usually tell most people that the VF500F was my first bike...

Yes. LOL. Well put Toe cutter! :chaingun:

My first POS was a 1983 VF750F got it for $600 and it rode ok. Had all sorts of issues but I loved it more than the dive bars it rode me to. The current POS in my stable is a 2005 Buell XB9S. Buell is Chinese for Mule. The bike runs and rides but shakes like hell and I have put less than 150 miles on it. Its the only bike I have had people actually talk sh*t to me while sitting at a light. I did not even bother to reply... Its no longer insured and collects dust well. One thing it does perfectly.

I have owned my 98 VTR1000 and my 03 VFR800 for a shorter period and have 1000 miles on both. Both bikes have 35k+ miles. The Buell has less than 10k and its ready to be parted out with a shotgun. Seriously I wish I never bought the thing. In 2009 they sold Buells for less than they cost to make. Go figure. Eric Buell actually put a Buell Blast into a crusher. He crushed his own POS product. My hero. I think he was crying while he did it....

I have owned over 30 bikes and most of them have been good or warmed up to me with a bit of love. Early in my riding career I wanted a Triumph. I didn't have any money but I wanted a Triumph really bad and so my first real street bike was a 1969 Triumph Trophy 250. It didn’t have enough power to get out of its own smoke and was a constant source of exercise since I pushed it more than I rode it. It had a total loss electrical system and it dropped a valve once. I learned a lot of hard lessons with that bike and I got pretty good with the wrenches. I loved that bike but it hated me. That was the biggest POS I ever owned.

I had thought about owning a Buell one of these days. I have never ridden one but I assumed that were kind of Guzziesque. I could never find one cheep enough to take the chance..

Pretty awful bikes weren't they? Great potential: shaft drive and all, but serious POS.

    A Laverda RGS1000. It was a heap.
Kept breaking engine mounts, and had an electrical system straight from hell.
Owned it for a whole month, and worked on it just as long. Most mornings it just wouldn't start.
Pitty really because it handled superbly, you could run over a dead cow mid corner and you wouldn't upset it.

2006 Royal Enfield Electra, what a heap of shit, bought it new, broke down 3 times on the way home from picking it up from the dealer. Ended up pissing the thing off at the start of this year. With all the money I spent on it with 3 engine rebuilds I think I lost $10,000 buy the time I offloaded it. Word of advice, never buy any shit made in India because that is all it is, shit.

I think mine was a '82 Yamaha XJ750 maxim. Traded a '86 Chevy Caprice estate wagon(Griswold-mobile) even for the pile. The title was all screwed up and the PO had painted the tank with a rattle can and put a plastic skull on the headlight to make it look "cool". I ended up parting some of it out. I still have a container full of crap that came off of it.

'82 GS750 Suzuki. Now there's nothing wrong with these bikes (in fact they were well regarded in their day...), there was something wrong with THIS bike. I'd just got back from travelling and bought it for a grand just to have a bike to get around on. What I learned: cheap bikes are expensive. And my ride usually started with me rolling it down a hill to bump, and stopped wherever it fucking well felt like it. And it burned oil, of course.

1978 honda 400 Hawk. I found it for $250 in Duarte, CA. A kick starter with much bigger carbs. I remember the throttle cable was always braking at the worst time. I learned a lot about roadside repair with this one. I dont miss the front drum break at all. It was a blast when I finally got the jetting wo work.

Last 2 posters can't blame the bikes, they were old, cheap and probably flogged to death by a string of previous owners

I was 15 and bought a old 70s honda 350. Painted flat black extended forks, and frame had been cut and welded.
Mufflers were cut off , monkey bars, a sissy bar 3 ft high, no turn signals, just a head light and tail light. Got a bill of sale, no title. Came with a tag lol.
Had carb issues, charging issues and dog walked while riding down the road. Guy I bought it from for 150.00 was as biker gang related as they come. Looked like he could kill you with a stare. After day one of having to push start it before evey ride I began to wonder what I was thinking. Day two I got it up on the freeway. At 55 she began to wobble just a little. At 60 the bike began to shake and wobble so bad it blurred your vision, all the while I felt the back tire was going to pass the front. Day three while riding in the neighbor hood the chain I had soaked in motor oil busted a link and locked the back tire up. Not sure how I saved it from going down but I did. Many years (9 at the time) of MX riding I guess. No big deal I'll just use a shorter chain. Problem fixed.Day 4 I had to drag it behind a cousins pickup for a mile to get it to start. While riding another cousin, about ten years older had me stop by his place after seeing me riding. He looked the bike over and then told me I was done. It was a death trap. By the way I had hid the fact I bought this bike from my folks. I fought it a little but knew he was right. Parted it out and got 100.00 bucks back. The next summer I bought a kawi kz 400. She was mint. My real first street bike.
