mmm....I have the book at home....
Not much can go wrong....DId you jump start the bike or anything like this?
It may trace back to the ECM...which I do have spare one for 2000 2001....
If I remember ,( and can find the shop manual) I will try to read what they say to trouble shoot.

I didn't jump start the bike. My vfr is a 1999. A wrench who works on many bikes told me he thinks it is the screen itself that needs to be replaced. It costs $325.00. What do you think?

Find a screen off a wrecked bike on eBay or something. $325 is highway robbery for just an LCD screen. Not sure how the whole thing goes together, but I reckon you could get the whole damn instrument cluster for less than $325 off a wrecked bike.

    mmm....Azmotor sports has the cheapest.
Because I had him add it to there web site.

I also have to replace ...but the problem is your Mileage we be off if you purchase used or new.

My fuel gauge is off and so is my Temp reading.
You dont have much of a choice.

The neat display is one of my Loves of the bike.
I HATE things that dont work right.
They are not that easy to come by …..Every once in a blue moon one will show up on e-bay. I check ALL the time . One did come up it went for 200.00 +but it was the whole gauge set up.

For some thing like this its best to replace with new.
BUT be sure its the problem!
I have alreay replaced my speedo and tach...
I can take it apart in an hour...its nice to have the shop manual.

If you need any help....drop an e-mail

Just looked at the wiring Diag. There is an earth from the LCD screen, check if this is OK, as if not it seems that the whole screen will be out.

    Good luck

..... Having the same issue myself,.... Picked up my fourth 5th gen tonight, had a bad MAIN fuse, replaced this, and had to jump start as the P/O drained the battery trying to crank it. It runs fine now... just no LCD screen..

I'm going to pull the fairings to paint them, will check the back of the gauge cluster at that time.. Until then, anyone have any definite answers or ideas?

    Thanks,
    Patrick
