Speedo and engine

    Hell I have a question I own a 2007 VFR 800 yesterday I finally got to ride it and the speedo was very erratic it was going from one speed to another and at the same time I could feel the engine surging any help would be very greatful.

    Sounds like you might have a problem with your speed sensor Jim. Unbolt your speed sensor and remove it,check to see if the plastic drive gear is either rounded out or broken off the drive shaft. Make sure the head of the bolt securing your front drive sprocket is undamaged too.

    Your speed sensor is located on the left side of your bike,it's bolted onto the chain cover right next to your clutch slave cylinder. Plug and unplug the connector for the speed sensor a coupla times to make sure that plug connector is making good contact too.

    The speedometer issue sounds like the nylon coupler or the sensor itself has gone bad. I had my sensor quit on me a few months ago, the nylon coupler was still good and I have it laying around if you need it. BTW, When you say the engine is surging, what RPM range are you in? The VTECs are know to have a slight low speed stumble, but it isn't a "surging" per se.
