Well with winter biting us in the ass thought I'd get started working on my beasty. Hate to put my CV project on hold but I'm in no hurry for that. Spent the weekend getting all the plastics and tank off and also helped my buddy tear his 85 vf700 apart as he is redoing his at the same time. Anyways after tearing down all the bits and pieces I have some work on my hands between stripping and sanding, and fixing all the little broken bits. Anyways I'll keep the process updated as I make it. It will be slow as funds and time are limited but determined to have it done by spring. get busy with an exacto blade or small knife, and straighten the bent, crumpled fins on your oil cooler and radiator if you have enuff beer and can stand the boredom.

Well I got some work done today. Fixed one of my plastics I thought I was going to have to replace, got the paint stripped from the tank, loaded said tank with a crap ton of BBs and shook the hell out of it and dumped out all the rust lol. Sooooo no new updates. So really this post is pointless huh? Lol anyways I've been crazy busy working an cars for people so I can make some money and keep them on the road. Plus I lost heat in my garage for awhile due to a busted heater. Now that I have heat again and no ones car to work on I can get back to the 2 wheeled Panty dropper lol. Tastless...... I REGRET NOTHING!

Hey! nice work. I don't suppose you could go into a little more detail about how you fixed your plastics? My 700 has a few cracks and broken bits and I don't have experience mending ABS. It seems you know what you are doing. Even just a quick rundown of materials would help me a lot.

Are you planning on painting it back to OEM, or are you going for something a little more unique?

plastic welding is your friend Pope. you can get two different kinds. the heated air or the iron. the heat gun version costs a bit more and you need to be careful you dont melt holes in the plastic (ask me how I know).. the iron works alright. what i did to stop the cracks was drill small holes on the ends of the cracks then melted the cracks back together. make sure you sand down to the plastic or you will just burn paint and it makes a mess...after it cools sand lightly as to not heat it up and then a light coat of fiberglass sand to finish... check out tinkeringwithstuffs thread he had a basketcase to do the work on... good luck...

I used a soldering iron and some spare abs I had laying around. I just melted the crack back together being care full to not burn all the way through and flipped it over and did the same from the backside.

Got the tank dent pulled out quite a bit. Just a little filler and it will be ready to go. 20131228_193753.jpg

I work from the back only (after sanding down about 1/4" on each side of the crack) with a 40 watt broad-tipped soldering iron and use plenty of ventilation cuz it smells bluddy 'orrible and isn't safe to inhale, not like this......

I rebuilt my fairings and all the tabs by bonding the cracks together with a super glue, then after it dried I took a Die grinder and V'ed the back side and filled it in with a Cold weld epoxy. After the back side was dry I V'ed the front down to the Cold weld and filled it. As for the broken tabs I slotted the ABS and inserted a SS washer and used the Cold Weld to bond it to the ABS. The pieces that were missing I got a sheet of 1/8" ABS and using a heat gun formed the piece that was missing. Used the super glue again and the cold weld to replace the missing part. After all the parts were dry I sanded the outside smooth and then used a little glazing putty on the pin holes. sanded that out, primed the part, sanded smooth, and shot the first coat of paint. If I found any imperfections I went back with the glazing putty till they were gone.

Little to no progress really. Got the tank filled, sanded and in etch primer. Just been so busy! Wife totaled her car so I bought another just like it that needed an engine so I swapped that. My car needed some love so did that, and my dad keeps asking me to work on his truck. I WILL BE RIDING THIS BIKE BY SPRING! I don't care if its missing all its cloths and ugly as can be. Let's just hope it doesn't come to that.

Well I started the paint. It 8th what I wanted but time is short and funds are shorter so it will have to do until next winter I guess. I'm just happy all my plastics are fixed and it will have some paint on it ( I really didn't want to ride it in primer, but I would have). 20140315_140316.jpg 20140315_163941.jpg

Ok so I underestimated the amount of paint needed and now I can't get the color match right. So I have to start over with a different shade of blue (punches self in the face). Oh well the new blue will match the seat so I don't have to recover it. Pics coming soon.
