The gas tank on my 87 VFR700 has a leak and I am looking for a replacement tank. Will only the 2nd gen 700/750 tanks fit or could I use a later 800 tank or something else?

Welcome to the forum! I would surmise a guess and say that is a "negative ghost rider, the pattern is full" as the 5th gen has a lot of changes from the 4th gen. I would check thru the http://vfrworld.com/forums/buying-selling/ forum and look for people parting out 2nd gens. Otherwise, look on Craiglist, and E-bay.

take it to a radiator shop. Most likely they will be able to dip the tank in a hot tank, repair any leaks, and powder coat it for < $200 out the door. Most cases around $100 with paint.

If you want to fix the tank permanently, I know the place called GTL Advantage in North Hollywood, Ca that can do the job for $260.00 until April 1st when the price goes up to $325.00

I do not work at GTL and get no compensation for informing you of them but, I have had 4 tanks done by them to date with another one there now and they guaranty the lining for the life of the bike.
