So I've been reading some threads here and there, and found an '06 vfr800 with 20k on the clock for $4,000 (also has the quad-laser exhaust pipes). Having owned my 5th gen (with over 40k on the clock) for the last few months, I'm in love.

I'm considering hanging on to both (in case one needs repairs or maintenance, I'll still have a bike to ride to work!) and just hoping one does not win my heart more than the other.

I'm 22 years old so I've had my cravings for a blade, but insurance would kill me and the riding position isn't exactly comfortable for Texas. I'm staying here to finish college and hoping to move somewhere more twisty afterwards.

Thanks for reading, just thought I'd share. Questions/comments/suggestions always welcome :)

Hardly anyone here will believe you have a VFR until you post pictures. Welcome.
Edited, I see the picture now.

I am kind of in the same situation as you. I have a 5th gen that I enjoy, but I am not a aggressive sport rider. I think I would enjoy the 6th gen more as I commute and tour more than tear up the twisties. Plus I really would like ABS. If I could find a comparable 6th gen own that wanted to switch to a 5th gen for sport reasons, it would be perfect!

I've had a 99 for the past 6 almost 7 years. I just picked up a 6th gen this past sunday. I got a screaming deal on it and I planned to fix a few things and flip it for some extra cash, but the more I ride it, the more I like it. What I thought was going to be a done deal has turned into a soul searching conundrum as I really don't need 2 VFRs.

I love my 99, but it's had its issues (honestly all caused by me), but still rides great despite its age. Now the 2003 with 86K on the clock that I bought, its just that much more refined, but the extra refining has almost made it a little more boring. So far, it just doesn't seem to have the innate character the 99 has. But then again, the 03 does have stock everything, and the stock exhaust sounds like a sewing machine.

But having ridden both, you can tell they are cut from the same cloth. If you blind folded me, I don't think I could tell which bike I was sitting on, and the ride very similar too. But....that VTEC! Its fun...

:bowl::bandito:All you need is a 2 bros carbon can and a 2006 vfr and you got a modern reliable bike I WOULD THINK, I don't think a early model is any less or more sporting as they have the same size engine, but the styling on a 2002-and up is different. Replace the stock seat-garbage. How can they make such a fancy bike and have a seat made so cheaply!?

I've tried a corbin on my 5th gen and greatly prefer the stock seat. The 6th gen came with a corbin, but i'm not a fan and Toecutter is giving me an old stock seat. I've heard good things about seargent, but have yet to get a good amount of seat time in one.

I've ridden many 750+ mile weekends on a stock seat, and one 1100+ mile weekend. I was comfortable enough.

I can tell you now I have a 2007 VFR with only 4,000 miles on it and I love it . My buddy has a 1999 VFR and we switch back and forth all the time . To me his feels warmer to ride little more comfortable however me and him both agree that my 2007 feels more aggressive in the corners . he has Exhaust , PC3 and K&N
My bike only has exhaust and K&N done and we both feel my bike is a bit faster and when I get the PC5 it will be even more so . So when it comes down to it me and him both agree if on a long trip his 1999 would be a better choice to ride if going out to have fun the 2007 is the way to go . But both bikes are great .
So I say set one up for long rides and the other for being bad lol I think I will want to pick up a 5th gen myself hell maybe even a VFR 750 also . So the point here is I think you will love both bikes the same but for different reasons .

You'll enjoy the 6th gen. Its good for those nice, slower, enjoy the scenery rides. Everyone knows the 5th Gen with gear driven cams is the winner.

everyone knows the V-tec is the one for power . and the 6th gen looks soooo much better . the 5th gen is for pushing air and the 6th gen is to cut through it . lol
And with the PC5 with the 6th gen you can do so much more .

Well, before he supercharged his 6th gen, I was able to stay with Toecutter step for step in both acceleration and top speed on my 5th gen even though I out weigh him. He'd dust me in the corners tho, but that has to do with his vastly superior rider skills over me.

I think he was just holding back so you didn't get your feelings hurt . lol No way you will take my 6th gen in a 1/4 mile with your 5th gen . I have been drag racing bikes for over 17 years I'll take you right off the start . I bet you in the 1st 60 feet maybe even 120 feet I can take your 5th gen with my old 1992 Yamaha XJ600 . But that's me lol I'm only 150lbs like a jockey on a horse .

The seat on a 5th gen I heard is better than the 6th . The 5th seat has more padding. I don't know how they screwed up the 6th seat so bad-there is plenty of room for a really nice seat. Well I hope my new sargent world seat fixes the problem. But which bike is better I don't really know, but I would guess the 6th is better if it can go faster and handle better. I would say the 6th is a clear winner with a good seat. I am also thinking of a scotts damper, but not before I get new tires M5-super tires:bandito::eyebrows::smash: on and change the fork oil -I think changing things a little at a time is the way top see if what you did was a plus or not?

Still working things out with the bank, think I'll put a grand down so they stop bugging me about all sorts of info

Think I'm getting a hell of a deal with the laser exhaust for $4,000, free delivery too!

$4k with hard bags sounds nice. Tires & chain all good? The RWB 6th gen is the fastest!

    Here she is :)
I got her for $3,500 cash
Unfortunately the rear seat cowl has a broken tab, I'm going to try to repair it. Also 90% of the tools were missing from the tool kit when they said it was original :(

Is that the double bubble on there? Mine came with one but is not on. Curious to know if that is how it would look. Either way the one on there looks longer than stock. Nice bike by the way.
