    Hi all,

I'm new to the forum after acquiring a 2002 VFR (gen 6). I won't bore you all with the story, but I can start by reassuring you all that my acquisition is fully legal...

Here's the problem, I have no keys!

I am aware of the HISS immobiliser and am equally aware of the requirements/costs involved with obtaining all that is needed for me to start the bike.

My question is, is there anyone on the forum who knows of a cheaper and/or less official method?

I can buy the ignition barrel, fuel cap and seat for less than £100 on eBay, obviously though the HISS is integral to the ECU.
Maybe it possible to flash the ECU to accept a new chipped key or even to remove the HISS code? Maybe there are ECU's out there that are free of the restraints of HISS?

Any help or advise would be most appreciated.

Or you can simply run a used USDM ECM and get rid of the HISS all together. None of the USA models that im aware of used the chipped keys.

The hiss system requires at least one key to recover your hiss code. Since you have none, usa or canada spec ecu and you will have to convert your control harness to the north american wiring. Or spend lots of money and get new ecu, icm, key tumblers and keys from dealer. Be prepared to provide proof of ownership.

That or crate the bike up and send it to me as a donation to the cause. :)

Thanks for your help all, I'm not sure about the "ship it to ZEN" option though! Would I be expected to pay the shipping costs for your new free bike!?!

I have seen the lock sets including ECU, that sounds like a good option but I think I may just get a couple of keys cut once I have the bike registered in my name. I am told I can get the first key cut for less than £250. I'm trying not to spend money on it until I'm sure I can own it...it's still in the balance.

In the meantime does anyone know any tricks for removing the seat without breaking the latch or lock? I'd like to get the battery out. It'd be nice get a good battery in there and turn it over just so I can hear that I have a engine with moving parts and compression...even if I can't get fuel in there!

Should be able to take the fuel cap out and replace it with a no key quick release cap if needed.

Sorry, I didn't mean that. What I should have said is that by replacing the battery I could turn the engine over but the HISS will stop fuel getting to the cylinder.

Does it really cost 250 quid for a key that wont even start your bike? Why not just get a none chipped dummy key for 12 quid and cut that?

You can remove the seat by pulling on the cable release. This is a tricky thing to do but does work. Expect to break a plastic clip that holds that cable guide in place.

Do you have high security tools? If so you can remove the ignition switch and tumbler set. Stamped into the side of the tumbler set is your key cut code. This will allow you to get a honda key from the dealer. There is a good chance that this bike is still using the oem hiss code. Supply the vin and the key code and see if they can get you a new master key with chip. Expect to pay through the nose for this key though.

The ship to zen is an option. As for shipping, I know of a dealer that just shipped a bike to london for 600 quid. Im sure it wont be too much more to send one back.
