I recently bought a 2005 and I have the paniers but they are pretty small for long trips. I'm a photographer so I do need as much lockable and weatherproof space as I can get. Any suggestions on what 'trunk' to put on the back end? I guess givi but it seems that the mounting hardware is more or less permanent and it looks quite ugly...

    Any other solutions/ideas out there?

    thanks.

You're pretty much stuck with Givi.

    KC-10 FE out...

There is also a Top Box available to go with the factory side cases, it may be pricey but looks better than the others. You can also get it to be keyed alike.

For something quick and not exactly cheap, this is a bit more secure then just netting down your camera bag.

Can't beat a knife, but it'll keep it from walking away when you're grabbing a soda or using the little biker's room.

What brand of bag is that and does it secure under the seat or something?

The ride from San Diego are to Tahoe was great. I took two days. Up 395 to Bishop for the night. Through Yosemite and out 120 to 4, ebitts pass and then spent the night in markleville, home the next day. That area at sunset is SKETCHY on the deer factor. The road can be really fun but I was laying on the horn at times before the next turn. Not riding fast or anything, but they were all over, at least 20 different ones...

There are parts of 395 with new pavement, no cars, no cops... 144....

If you can, let me know the make of that bag.

Luggage Locker. Yah it straps under the seat, so you gotta pop the seat to take the bag off. I think the compartments lock with little padlocks too. Enough to keep curious hands out.
Last time I road hwy 395 it was 105 degrees. The divided hwy stuff you can open it up real good. :)

I have a 46l givi topbox and I am pretty happy with it. I'm not sure what the brackets look like as I haven't taken it off yet.

You can fit a set of hardbags off of a BMW K1200S. Search members photos for flameface and there's pictures of my '99 with this set-up.

SW-Motech makes quick release removeable sidecase racks that you can use to mount Givi, Krauser, or Hepco-Becker bags, your choice. You'll need the rack, the adaptors for whichever brand of bags you choose, and since you're concerned about lockable storage you'll need the key locking accessory so that no one can steal the cases by quick-releasing the rack.

Spendy, but with this you get your choice of multiple brands of hard luggage, including some that are HUGE, and the mounting racks don't have to stay on when you're not carrying them, so it'll look much prettier.

As for the hardware, I'm using the Givi top box Rack, with an exl bag. If you're looking for hardware, that is a bit sleeker,...(Sorry, more VFRD friends), Kanadian Ken, makes a topbox mount, that is compatable with stock, and Givi, boxes, tailbags, backpacks, coolers,......whatever. (I think you have to provide the mounting plate, for top boxes). It attaches to the grab rails, of 6th gens. Puts the box, over the pillion. Nifty VFR graphic, cut out on it too.

    Sorr, I have no pics.
