so here it is, (no pics yet, not sure where my phone lead is) my project thread. i got a bargain vf750f interceptor, i got told it had a bad rattle, it hadnt been started in over 2 years.
i put fresh fuel and a new set of plugs in and a new battery (it had a 5ah moped battery!) and it started up. it was noisey, front cylinders where making a right racket!
dropped the old coolant and oil out, whipped off the covers and the cam chain was loose, it had been caused by a bent pin on the tensioner (the one that was recalled back in 86ish) the oil pipe (again fitted with an early small diameter one) was "machined down" by the loose chain!
luckily i work in a motorcycle shop and we have used spares, in also have a whole spares bike (minus tail pipes and cam tensioners!).
fitted the "new" tensioner and such.
whilst it was apart i removed the collector box and welded up all the holes. i also made some 3 inch slash cut tail pipes, because well the pipe was on the welding bench.
fitted it all together and started it with the slash cuts, what a noise! so loud! louder than a drag bike! its got the old tailpipes back now.
i also noticed the front tyre was fitted backwards so i removed the wheel and refitted and balanced the wheel (i removed 160 grams!).
i fitted the speedo drive wrong so im gonna sort that out tomorrow after ive redone the tappets (it rattled).
its painted in a hideous yellow and black, so im thinking of going down the mad max MFP interceptor route with the paint scheme, its only to spray the black into blue and red and it would be right. think it would be a pretty cool paint scheme

wow its been a while since i was on here, little update.
the rocker cover had never been off, turned out the oil pipes where the tiny diameter recalled ones, the tensioners where the bent recalled ones and the timing chain sat ontop of the timing gear (as in the chain pins sat ON the teeth!).
one of the cdi's was rubbing against the frame and it cut out on me one day.
the forks had never been apart, so ive literraly just finished rebuilding them, gone to put them on and the air pipe thing is missing. looks like im getting a trip to the spares bike again. vf.jpg heres what it looks like, crazy colour huh?!
ive got homemade straight through pipes on it, which are insanely loud (i live near lots of tunnels!).
its still a way off complete yet. but im having a knee operation in 2 weeks so its gonna wait a while now, also im trying to get the camaro over here

since you have the carbs off you should replace the boots. new ones pop on so much nicer.. it is a pain but remember to not use a BFH to get them on pressure and wiggling is the only thing that works. with new boots it shouldn't be a big chore..

not been on here in a while, update, need new tyres and a few other bits, so plan is: knobbly tyres front and back, bigger rear sprocket, smaller front, new chain, make a radiator guard out of alloy with a mesh cover thing, finish the damn paintjob. new seatcover and make a new set of pipes.

Knobby tires don't belong on a sportbike ! Why sacrifice traction for a dubious fashon statement ??

i ride a lot of dirt/gravel roads, it seemed fitting with the theme of the bike.
    [IMG] little pic
happy with the setup mostly, my rear shock needs a service, it just squashes right down, are the rear shocks servicable? i have a complete spares bike so can whip the shock off that one.
