I went into a showroom once and was shocked at the prices. Just the same it's got two wheels... I dig it.

Then the salesman walks up- he could have been a furniture salesman but for the get-up:

Shiny Harley boots, shiny Harley belt, tucked in brand spankin new cheesy Harley t-shirt.

I nearly keeled over laughing watching him duck-walk a bike across the floor.

I see your point: Harley owners do not constitute only 6% of the population but commit more than 60% of the murders.

 

That substitution argument makes no sense. A segment of the population and a a segment of a product have nothing in common. Further more, this thread deals with the product, actions by end users and the participants reactions to the same. I see no irrational "bigotry" but rather some legitimate questions posed by individuals who want answers. Why the pirate suits? Why rev the bejesus out of a presumably well running machine? Why snub anyone not using the same brand as you? Why trailer when you could ride? Why bling out a machine which has a power plant better suited for an agricultural implement?
Granted, there are some stereotypes and generalities being bandied about here but most are rooted in realit and rational observation.

I almost forgot to ask! What the hell is up with the way tall arm stretching ape hangers lately? Seems I'm seeing more and more of this rediculously trend. Mostly on HD's. Imagine that!

Like it or not HD is sorta like that good song by some band that the radio/MTV/whatever plays to the point where you just HATE it.

That freakin' HD Edition Ford F-150 just makes me laugh so hard I almost puke.

I'd be leaning towards hate...but mostly because of all HD rider attitude and all the HD wannbes with their tees, watches, stickers...etc.

 

^funny beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. Some of those F150s in HD garb look pretty sharp. Would I own one? I don't know. I do like some of the graphics they do on the sides of those "rigs" though.

I think the trend of "ape-hangers" is getting poplular with some of these folks because they found oot that they can cut down on their deoderant bill, "armpits in the wind = less Rightgaurd."
So, with the money saved, they can invest in more HD wear-ah-phanalia, every one needs a HD thong or a bottle opener or, well you get the mindless idea. Would'nt you want a ceramic pig bank? ound:

C'mon now! BB has some truly great insights and along with his obvious long term experience on planet Earth , he has a lot to offer. I personally enjoy his posts although I picture a grumpy old crazy haired hermit type fella. He owned a 883 before a lot if us (not me mind you) were alive. The man knows whereof he speaks. As a bonus, he utilizes proper grammar and punctuation. If he hates HD's? Well that's good enough in my book.

 

Or at least the American equivalent.

The UPS guy that frequents my place of work is selling his 2008ish 919 because he bought a FAT BOY. When I asked him what the hell he was doing all he said was that the Harley was REALLY COOL. He's stuck selling his Honda because they were only gonna give him $1500 for it.
He then had the gaul to say he was thinking about a Multi since it was a similar price to the Harley but he went with the Harley because it was REALLY COOL.
I don't get it, how does COOL compete with performance? Even if you like that cruiser ride there are so many more options that seem to make more sense.
If there was ever a marketing department that should get a big fat bonus and an R&D department that should be sent packing......

 

UPS dudes drive really cool trucks too..
