VMax. 1st gens were in production forever, clean examples can be found for short money. Plus since it was largely unchained over the years spare parts can be interchanged between models years. I think in 97 there was fork & brake upgrades.

Just an idea. Hard to tell whether you are going for form or function. Maybe check out Google images for custom Goldwings. Stripped of the uberfarkles and a little creative effort you would have something a little different than the next guy.

Ugh just listened to audio of a few goldwings. It sounds like my old kawasaki vulcan nomad 1500... Like a Jetson's mobile. Some kind of gear whine in the motor. Not digging it.

I'm going for something that is comfortable to cruise 2-300 miles while taking in the sights.

Hopefully aesthetically pleasing too. Either sleek, traditional or mad max in looks but wouldn't look out of place with ape hangers.

Again- that also doesn't scrape pegs or sound like a cartoon vehicle

If it were me I'd look at the Yamaha MT-01 or if too sporty perhaps the Suzuki m109r.

I spent some time on the Diavel and it's a great bike, you get the cruiser feel in a light capable package. If I was to venture farther to the cruiser end of the spectrum I'd look at a Thunderbird or Raider.

If you want to be cool looking then Harley is the only way to go. That said the only Harley with anything is the VRod. But then again you will be an out cast Harley rider. The 1%er of Harleys. Mmmmm that's want they want anyways, to be different.

Have you tried prayer or a Ouija board? A quickie would be to go on Craigslist and see what is available for 3K pesos.

VTX1800. They compliment a VFR nicely and have enough torque to still bring a smile to your face. Reliable as can be and comfortable all day too. I'm 6'2 and have moved the pegs forward 3" just to make it a little more comfortable. I could ride it all day before I did that though.

They share a garage well too!

You said you wanted something relaxed and comfy for 200+ mile days -

Cruisers I rode were comfy for "cruising" 20 miles across town from bar to bar. There's a reason they are called cruisers and not touring bikes. I suggest you rent one and put serious miles on one day and see how you feel about it then.

I'd rather ride my VFR 200 miles any day and the next step for comfy is a Wing

I agree with Tink. There are far more comfortable bikes available for long rides.

I had a vulcan nomad 1500 before- basically a cruiser with bags.

The only difference between a cruiser (vtx1800, shadow 1100, vulcan 1500) and a goldwing is that the GWs foot positioning is under the knee, not in front.

I recall getting monkey butt on my vulcan nomad after 2 hours. It was however the stock seat.

Am I incorrect thinking that an aftermarket seat, an air hawk pad or a beaded seat cover <sorry just puked a bit lol> wouldn't help?

My plan would actually be to get a Corbin with a driver backrest.

    Would that change your opinion?

I totally get that there are bikes with more useable torque and greater rpm range, so to me the difference is in the "feel" of the bike.

Cruisers usually have more rake to the fork for more relaxed steering.

And because they lack a high strung nature (to the point of being a bit slow to giddy-yap) they are also easier to chug along at less intense speeds while taking in the sights.

Btw I went on a fairly intense twisty ride recently- no plans on selling the vfr!! Just want something for nice easy days with the older crowd and tours of 2-300 mile days consecutively.

For goodness sake, take a couple of aspirins and some down time.
Find a good movie or bike race to watch, maybe current GP, and wake up to yourself.
There is nothing to gain by getting a cruiser.
Next thing you know, you will be growing a moustache and standing in front of the mirror admiring it.
That is a road, without a good destination.

I spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars trying to make my Shadow comfortable for long rides. It didn't matter. The wife and I were crabby by 200 miles. The wind buffeting, engine vibration, and inability to move around a little make it very uncomfortable on the long rides. Cruiser, not tourer. The VFR is a sport tourer which means MORE comfy on long rides. Cruiser means 2miles between bars and tip over after the poker-run is done.

    Think about it;

4 out of 5 doctors trailer their hog to Sturgis.

If you said you wanted a cruiser to commute 15 miles to work and back then I'd say it could be the right choice for you.

I'd see a shrink before I bought one. If you are looking for more comfort I would suggest a standard. Hell try a SV650. Cheap insurance, easy to work on, upright riding position, great track bike, great everything bike.
