I checked the four fuses next to the ignition switch and they all tested okay. I saw a schematic that shows a bulb in a headlight assembly. The bulb is a 12V60/55W. I bought one on amazon and it is the halogen style. One person wrote a review and said it worked on his Saber. Is this bulb an easy replacement? Could it be something else. Also, A while back after starting, the Tac and instrument lights failed to work for about ten seconds but then they kicked in. No problem like that now. The only issue is the out of order headlight.

Bike of that vintage, check all your connectors for corrosion and poor contact, who knows how old that headlight is?

What color is yours? Mine is blue.

blue and white. I will try to post a video soon. I put some vintage Supertrapp pipes on it and it sounds great. It sat for 30 plus years. The previous owner hardly rode it; it only had a little over four thousand miles on it when I got it. It's been tuned and carburetors cleaned and adjusted; now it runs real well. Recently rode it 900 miles to visit family and it just purred.

Inspect the start button, it is common for the button to be damaged from use and the contact for the head light will fail to line up correctly.

Toe is on the right track. My 84 does the same thing... the starter button won't spring all the way back out unless I "help" it. Usually if my headlight is out, I just nudge the starter button back out and the light comes back on. I know... it sounds stupid, but try it.

Bingo! I have been having problems with the switch sticking. I went out to the garage and it was stuck in the engage position. I pulled it back out and turned on the key and my headlight works. Thank you Toe Cutter and all who have responded.

Question? what is causing it to stick in the engage/forward position. I assume there is a small spring in there. Will a small squirt of WD40 work? This is actually a replacement from ebay. The original one had a great spring but failed in some contact section and the bike wouldn't start. I wish I still had it as I could take two and make one good one.
