    Hi from Turkey

I run a 2003 model with about 47,000kms on the clock, had it a bit more than 15 months and have been pleased with the bikes overall competance, comfort and rideability. I don't use it everyday but recently a noise from the engine has become apparent, thought it was the clutch plates chattering, I took it to a local guy, he had a look at it and charged me about 1200 tl (600 Dollars or thereabouts) the noise was still there, he said" oh that, don't worryabout it". As you can understand I don't let him do any more work that is too tricky. I asked others who all said differnt kind of things but the most likely thing that seem to fit the bill was when a Honda technician excliamed " Cam chain" I fell for that one, so going along with that idea, does it ring true? Do you think after less than 50 ks my camchain is starting to fade, if that is the case that means a big strip down and multiple gaskets and suchlike. Anyway, that will have to wait, I wanna go for a tour around some Greek islands and the time and cash flow is against me, so (here comes the BİG question) if I nurse the engine, keeping the revs outta vtec terriotory (yes I know I spelt that like a 4th grader) and avoid quick starts especially when two up, can I get another 2-3 ks otta her before I change said items?
Your expert opinions and relevant comments will be greatly appreciated, do I go for it and take it easy or abort the whole touring idea til the work gets done?

Any way you can post a video of said noise? Have you noticed the noise getting worse very quickly?

$600! Could have swapped in a used engine for that. If it's the cam chain noise then it's not so much the chain but the two tensioners that go bad and stop holding pressure against the chain to keep it tight. The cam chain tensioners are much cheaper and easier to replace. It's a known issue for the 6th gen.

Mr Sleep, thats an interesting theory, I like the sound of that, so if that is a feasible alternative, perhaps I can find a spanner monkey who may be able to accomplish said fitting, but my main concern is the expected live of the chain itself, will I get a couple of thousand more kiometres out of her with gentle riding?
The noise itself has not got any louder, but once you notice it, well it becomes more apparent.

It's your cam chain tensioner, just replace it. Tons of info on the web about this. Search around and replace it. Your chain should last the life of the engine under ideal tension.
