Mom always told me that if ya can't say something nice about something or somebody, don't say anything.

    Mom never had a Harley.

I just don't get how any law enforcement agencies could or would trust a bike that wobbled like that during the testing trials. That looks scary as hell to deal with on so many curves every day.

If you guys spent 1/10 as much time riding as you do worrying about Harley sh*t you'd be a lot happier~

I can't believe all the effort wasted on this thread....

I've never seen the reason for having a Harley. Only if you're a poseur like Chris Eubank, a slave to fashion would you want one.

When riding my RC51 I like to catch them at the lights and stop ahead of them, or sometimes alongside. Whilst their bikes sound like a pair of low tuned cement mixers mine sounds like a chopper...
By that I mean like a helocopter hovering overhead...

As the lights change, I give it a blap of throttle then leave them in a cloud of global warming as they hear what a proper V-Twin should sound like.
Maybe it'll make them realise you can have a great sounding twin that actually rides great and won't grind it's exhaust on the tarmac in protest at the slightest whiff of a corner.

I rode over 6000 miles in the last 6 months, so bite me. Besides, if the biking community can stir up enough trouble for HD maybe, just maybe, they'd stop making shit bikes. I don't want anyone to die on a Harley any more than on any other bike.

Just yesterday I went to Walmart twice both times on the bike. :)

Don't get the idea that HD marketing in general is some backwoods shack selling garden hoes. Both LAPD and CHP have ridden Harleys for many years as do many other PDs. Discounts? Oh hell yes.

Back in the day (before your time or mine) LAPD used jail trustees to do the maintenance work on the bikes. Same thing with other "city" vehicles.

A guy in my club just sold his biz to two ex employees of the BMW Dearlership in Seattle. Much of his work was contract stuff maintaining and servicing BMWs for the Washington State Police.

Buying a shitload of bikes direct from the manufacturer especially like US based HD is easy for purchasing agents. The Japanese and German manufacturers caught on to this really fast hence many Kawasakis and BMWs are used as police bikes.

You could try your advice on a HD BB and probably get a less measured response.. There you could just fill in the blank with any bike around..;)

Was out the other day in my "cage" just getting out of the community and was surprised when I looked on the right to see a motorcop with his mighty HD on the sidewalk "shooting and harvesting cars" granted its my back yard and I don't like seeing or experiencing speeders, (lots of hedges and small intersections where you have to look carefully.)

It would be cool though if some of those HD types could get diariah while their either out on the "job" or maybe coming out of the she-male bars.

I found this quote from the article telling:

". . .The BMW bike went from 1-100 mph in 10.75 seconds, while two Harley models pulled off the same feat in 21.28 and 31.6 seconds. The BMW reached a top speed of 131 mph, but the Harleys managed only 104 mph and 109 mph."

This is from a real, independent test and not fantasy figures bragged about over beers in a tavern.

Current thinking for those cops and robbers movie chases is to not do it for fear of losing an officer or a bystander from one element of a chase or another.

Another part of that equation is the instant nature of electronic communication . Not saying it is not still done but the trend is growing.

Ralph Nader rode that horse for years. Mid and rear engine cars handle differently than front engine cars. Lots of examples in the automotive end ie VW bugs, Porches ect., in a crosswind. That same horse even carried over when the 1200 VFRs came oot and the dudes that had never done much more than maybe sit on one and make the proper noises were attempting to assure everyone that the shaft drive would jack up like some of the airhead BMWs. The irony being that the BMWs do it the same each time making the bike predictable.

Now I wonder if Nader every drove a Corvair. Yep, got a buddy in Seattle who flies the San Francisco-Honolulu route who deadheads from Seattle to San Fran. Pilots get free parking in airport lots and he has a Corvair there for transportation on overnighters. Now he's getting nervous aboot somebody nicking the car as a "classic."

This guy would not drive an unsafe car. Never did buy that pitch from Nader.. Many Corvairs got junked but strangely the engines and the rest got transplanted into several of the "Fibreglass Cars" like the Devins. in the mid 60s.

I wonder what Enzo might say if Nader started shitting on the Dino's or What Colin Chapman might tell the front engine guys at Indy..

If vfr riders/metric riders had questionable hygiene and favoured Ape Hangers and all sorts of sordid clothing choices, they might. HD riders are more enjoyable to poke fun at imho.

Would be cool if they were ragging on metric/vfr riders though. ; )
