I just bought a 03 VFR800fi and want to know what slip on exhaust is best

I just bought a 03 VFR800fi this morning and want to know what slip on exhaust is best. My bike has 173 miles on it and Im not sure what the proper break in period should be either (and the bike didn't come with an owner's manual). The bike has the two undertail exhaust and I would love something with good sound, price as well as a little horse power. I also wanted a opinions about heat transfer through the seat to passengers... Any complaints? or Thoughts?

I havent had my 02 VFR too long but it came with Micron slip-ons and they sound very good, not overly obnoxious but enough rumble to be noticed.

I cant verify heat for the underside of passengers as of yet but I imagine it would get a little warm with any type exhaust be it aftermarket or stock.

 

+1 on the Microns! - awesome sound! Dare I say it - even better than the Staintunes (with spud out of course).

Have a set of leo vince cans, has greatly improved the v4 sound, jury still out if any performance gains, would be more noticeable if air filter and power commander fitted as well, no excessive heat felt from pillion seat and quite easy to install.

 

Ditto on the Microns in Carbon Fiber -- I've got an '02 with them and they look great and sound great under acceleration but cruising above 60-65 they are not obtrusively loud at all. Heat is not an issue at all with the carbon fiber, I have some throw over bags for trips and they never get hot enough to damage the bags. Enjoy your new Veefer!!

 

The manual for my '07 states that the break in period is 300 miles and the first service is at 600 miles. Since your's is also a 6th Gen, I imagine that it also applies to your bike.

 

that must of been a great find 03 with under 200miles!! wow. I like the staintunes imo they look close to stock and good quality there is a thread on this site with all the different sounds from the different aftermarket exhaust it helped me decide, just do a search.

 

Leo Vince's for me..... I can tell you one thing, it doesn't matter which set you go with the weight savings alone is worth it! My Leo's sound great with the spuds out. Great quality, fit is awesome!

 

From the few dealing I've had with 6th Gen bikes, I've noticed that the shorter the can, the better it looks. Take a look at photos of as many brands of pipes as you can find & you'll see what I mean. The only ones I've seen up close are Remus, Micron & Staintune. The Remus was TI, the Micron was CF & the Staintune was SS. The Remus pipes seems to fit the lines of the bike the best out of the 3. If the Staintune pipes were about 3" shorter, they would be perfect.

Is there a make for Shorty pipes like the GP pipes for the R6? But for the newer under seat mount?

 

Do you have the race cans, or the EVO II? If you have the EVO II, how hard is it to remove the spuds? I'm a Newbie at this. I've had my 06 VFR for two weeks and getting ready to get my exhaust!

 

I went with a P.C III, K & N and Two Brothers Racing V.A.L.E slip on and am very happy with the sound and performance. Very agressive sound when throttle is used but fairly tame at cruise.

 

If you want a little more life and realiabily out of your bike, I've heard of going 1000 miles nice and easy for the break in period. As for the exhaust, my girlfriend spend quite a bit of time on the back of my 04 and has never complained about heat from the pipes. As for after market exhaust, depends on how much your willing to spend. The micron and staintune both have nice sounds to them. I ran the micron on my honda 599, and was very pleased with the deep rumble from it. On my 04, I didn't mind the look of the stock cans and couldn't afford aftermarket ones for now, so I just gutted the cans. Removing the baffles and packing. Must say it came out nice, and sounds about as good as the aftermarket cans.

I'm a Staintune man myself, they look good and sound good. My gf has no complaints on the back regarding heat from the cans, don't forget there's a layer of aluminum under the rear section for heat absorbtion.

 

Two Brother Racing?

I have been offered a set of Two Brother Racing, full system, for $500 is that good, how do you like the sound?

Does the guy that's selling the two bros have more than 1 set, that's a great deal! Wouldn't mind a set for the 03 I just bought.

Hi, BURN_MAN, what fender eliminator did you use with the LVs? Did you have to cut the plate or adjust the cans to make it fit? Looks really good.

I'm not a big fan of undertail exhaust.Has anyone tried not putting on any exhaust? Just take off the stock crap and weld on a small elbow to direct the exhaust downward. How about a high mount right side two brothers exhaust could that work?
