1984 VF500F - stalled during carb synch. now it will not start. Has been running pretty well, always started on first try. I have had the carbs off so I thought I should give them a sync. Guess I should have left it alone . . .

Anyway, can wrongly adjusting make the bike stall and not start up? I was adjusting #3 when it stalled. I was thinking that maybe the petcock vacuum line was not fully pinched off so it ran out of fuel. But I have been trying to start it for two days with no luck. It seems like it is out of fuel, but I can only crank for so long before the battery runs low. It took a while for it to get fuel after winter storage, but eventually worked. Two days of cranking hasn't worked this time.

Besides hooking up the carb sync tool, portable tach, and starting to make some adjustments, no other changes were made from when it was a running bike. The carb sync tool and tach have been removed.

    Any thoughts?

Bottle feed the little bi**h !!

connect a fuel line up to the carbs directly from a gravity-fed source.

Well, it finally started. I guess it did run out of fuel during the sync. I had just about given up and decided to take out my frustration on the starter. I let her crank for a long, long time. I know its not good practice to let the starter go for more than a few seconds, but it finally started after a good long time with the start button pressed.

Is this normal being such a PITA to start after running out of fuel? Or is something wrong? Once it finally gets fuel it seems to runs great. Thanks

It does take some time for the bowls to fill after you run it bone dry. It will take some cranking time and then some sputtering time before she kicks all the way over.

She continues to start up and run, but I really borked the carb sync. Idle speed screw doesn't raise or lower idle anymore, rpm's don't drop fast anymore, and engine temp seems to be higher.

I spent a long time trying to get them synced, but things just got worse. Even two of the four tubes on the sync tool got all the liquid sucked out (should have bought the Carbtune) This happened when the pressure from the adjusting tool on the #1 or #3 screws made the engine rev way up. Is this normal?

Is there a way to reset the adjusting screws? Like all the way in or out? Just wondering if there is a way to get the 3 screws in a better postion to start the sync again. Right, now things are so out of whack that the carb sync tool seems to be useless. Thanks

Take the carbs out and start over, it is not going to be that bad considering where you are now.
Bench sync the carbs, it is much easier to get synchronization when you start out with what appear to be perfectly balanced by your eyes & hands throttle plates
