New (again) From Lancaster PA

Well, maybe not official new yet since I am in search of a VFR again.

I sold the VFR because i wanted to try something with a bit more power and wasn't able to afford both. I ended up with a 2001 CBR929RR Fireblade. Fun bike, lots of power, but not the same as the VFR. For raw power, the CBR was king by the VFR beat it out by a landslide for all other reasons that make a bike appealing to me. Handling was more enjoyable on the VFR actually at my skill level as well. Also, I have not owned a car that has better headlights than my 03 VFR did!

Well back to the CBR. I had that for a while and then I started seeing an old high school sweetheart who, long story short, ended up marrying and inheriting a 1978 CB750K from her father who purchased it brand new in Ephrata as a leftover in 79. Pretty much all original with the exception of the oil tank side cover. I sold the CBR shortly there after because i would be content with the CB750 which is a great bike for 80 percent of the riding I like to do.

I am keeping the bike in tip top shape and once registration comes around again, I am getting antique plates on it which as you know limits the mileage you can ride it and when you can ride it.

So, after reviewing plenty of different bikes available, I keep coming back to a VFR.

So I ask for anyone in the general area of me to keep an eye out for a good deal or if you are selling one yourself, please let me know. My email address is in my profile so please feel free send a message if you have or find something worth while.

I am looking for specifically a 5th or 6th generation. I would love a 6th but i am sure getting a chance to ride a 5th gen would be just as fun as memories on my 6th gen.

If any white VFR's are available, This is a major... uh turn on? for me, so please let me know about them!

I remember the 750K very well as we sold a shit load of them. They just did everything or could be adapted to almost any style of riding. I'll never forget the heavy throttle on them. It felt like you needed two hands to twist the grip LOL... If I recall, it had the first twin cam engine with 77 being the last of the SOHC.

I hope you find a sweet ride soon! Try searching using search tempest as it will let you cover craigslist very quickly.

Budget it not set in stone yet but generally speaking, I would say the 3 to 5K range is where I will probably end up with a purchase.

I should elaborate a bit on more details of 'wants' for this bike.

A White or Red paint job is ideal but not required.
Tastefully modded with aftermarket pipes is a plus but not required. No need for a VFR modded beyond a throaty exhaust for me.
Any hard bag setup is a plus but not required.
Everyone wants a showroom bike but i will be riding the bike more than looking at it so cosmetics should be 'good' at the least.
The up keep of the bike is what I am concerned most with. These bikes are solid but I am not looking for anything that has been neglected or abused which I don't think is much of an issue with VFR's as with other bikes on the market.

This will be the main mode of transportation just as my 03 was when I had it. I just cant rack up the miles like crazy on the CB750 for the condition it is in anymore.

I actually owned a twin cam CB750 which was a 79 and it was more peppy than the 78 but it wasn't stock so the comparison isn't really valid. The 78 is actually the SOHC and the last year for it was considered dated to what the manufacturers were putting out in 78 but still a rock solid bike. The heavy throttle is still a pain if you ever hop on a highway but the biggest issue with the throttle is the amount you need to turn it if you ever wanted to go WOT. I never looked at the degrees between closed and WOT but i would bet it is about 175 to 180 degrees which the human wrist doesn't do haha.

That is suuuueeete. Too bad your budget wasn't higher. I saw on Fleabay an 07 RWB with less that 1000 miles on it for $8K down in Vero Beach Florida. That is kinda high as far as I am concerned but this guy has owned that thing for what 6 years now and put on less than 1000 miles so he may be persuaded to lower his price. That is only a 15 hour ride for you. One days hard ride or two easy days.

 

Thanks for keeping the watchful eyes guys. I have been using searchtempest and I just need to be patient or broaden my search area. Right now I am keeping fairly looking with searches but will probably expand if I am not successful within a month. I just don't want to jump at the first 'ok' deal that comes up and see the winner a week later!

 

That is the beauty and the danger of search tempest. I can find deals every day but sometimes they are a wee bit too far off to be worth the effort. It is how I found my 07 sitting in a storage unit 1800 kms from here. It was worth the drive! The seller was motivated and couldn't find local buyers.. He also realized the effort I was willing to put into recovery of the bike and so he made the deal so sweet I jumped in the car and the rest is history. My wife like to window shop. I like to search tempest!

In fact, I found an engine for my Audi S4 not too far from you in Lebanon PA with the help of the tempest.

I think the 93 VFR750 that I almost bought is still for sale, he was asking 1000. if you want let me know I'll see if its still for sale.

 

Thanks rustitution but I am keeping my eyes open for a 5th or 6th generation. I have a feeling I will be doing a long search as I did for my original but it's well worth it. I have the CB750 to ride so it's worth the wait for the right now to come by.

 

Hello from a fairly close neighbor. I am in Reading, PA and just picked up a 1994 VFR750. I got it for a good price, but it needs some plastics. Particularly RIGHT side tail, and center tail (both flat top, and rear "D" above the taillight) also could use a LEFT front lower, but not real concerned about it at this point.

 

Well hello again. I am bringing this thread back to life because as of tomorrow, I will be back on a VFR! I have been searching on and off for a bit and nothing really grabbed my attention too well or it was too far away until last week. I stumbled upon a fairly local 2008 with very low miles. She looks brand spanking new. Pictures and some more details to come tomorrow.
