Recently got a couple shocks back from Jamie.

F2 shock that I had him re-valve, I installed on my VF1000F. Great. Soaks up bumps nicely, firm but not harsh. It's a different bike in the corners, can't wait for a "real" ride. I've only had a couple short trips around town before the weather turned.

I am also installing an F3 shock on my 85 1000R. Not so straight forward.

The upper hose fitting interferes with the frame preventing the top mount to line up.

I briefly considered not using this shock, selling it and getting another F2 shock. But then I said fuck it, it's not that big of a deal, I'll clearance the frame and keep going.

I don't know if different years of the F3 shock have any differences in how the hose exits.

Next was the coolant tank. I was expecting to modify the tank with a heat gun and mold a channel for the hose. After looking at it, I was afraid I would end up with a mess. It would need some pretty big changes for it to mount in there nicely for me. I grabbed a tank from a VF750F...

The tank would still mount in the same manner, but would need a lot less re-molding to clear the hose. The top of the tank would need just a small bracket from the original mount. What else do I have... I found a Honda overflow tank from a scooter.

Fits the space perfectly. The only thing that might be an issue is capacity, just have to wait and see. If it's not cool, then I'll modify the 750 tank.

Next is the remote reservoir. It's going to be mounted where the left rear footpeg used to be. I've modified a stock bracket down.

I'm going to drill and tap the mount so some clamps will hold the reservoir at the same angle as the tail section.

If it just looks too busy, I may just mount the reservoir directly to where the stock bracket mounts. But this was my original idea, so I want to finish it and see. I'll post some more after I get some decent looking clamps. Thinking something like this, but not red. Silver or black.

Looks great. Another good write-up from the Captain. Any pics of the F3 shock mounting points?

Yep thanks, just seeing if Jamie had any new extensions for the shock.
That right side footpeg and bracket sure looks purty.

great photos. I have similar problems mounting one of Jamie's shock on my 2nd gen vfr700. I was thinking of using a 90degree elbow on the upper hose fitting to clear the frame.

Got the reservoir mount done. Pretty happy with it. Tucks in nicely, doesn't interfere with my boot or the chain guard.

Thanks. Feels great so far. Not a real ride yet, but put a 100 miles in some twisties on my 1000F that just got an F2 shock , and it was a different bike for the better. Holds the line with no wallowing on mid corner bumps. Very pleased so far.

Can you provide some specs on your scooter overflow tank ?
So far I haven't seen anything that would replace the vf750 tank ?

It is from a CH150, 85-86. No issues so far, 90+ degree weather and capacity is just fine. The tank does not have a overfill spill tube, but one could be added if needed.

I'm anxious to get the new rear shock from Jamie. I've used his services in the past and would recommend him. Btw your vf looks great!

Finally following up. I relocated coolant reservoir on my vfr700.

    [IMG] [IMG]

The bottle came from a Honda scooter, I drilled a hole to add the vent line. Cut off the mounting tabs and epoxied to the bottom. Original plan was to mount front-right of the radiator but there are clearance issues with the forks. First iteration used a bicycle water bottle bracket but it interfered with the lower fairing.

The reason for all the silliness is make room for shock reservoir that DMr built for me 7-8 years ago. Various half-assed attempts find a good home but still not happy with the outcome.

Anybody have a source for the loop clamps ?
