Hello VFR riders - Have 2002 Interceptor with what seems to be a failed fuel pump - would like confirmation please.

Bike is unmodified, never crashed, has only 5,086 miles, has not been run for two years. No fuel pump sound when key switched on. Engine cranks normally, but will not start. FI light operates normally, full of gas. Kill, side-stand, neutral safety switches functioning normally. No fuel pump whirring sound when key switched to ON position. Applied meter to fuel pump power supply plug, and shows adequate voltage for two seconds when key is switched on, which I understand is normal operation. Loosened fuel pump outflow banjo bolt, fuel flows out. Have tapped fuel pump with soft mallet, still, not functioning.

Want to get confirmation before attempting messy, expensive task of draining tank, replacing fuel pump. Could it be anything else? Again, power supply to fuel pump seems normal.

Also - FOR SALE! I will post a photo soon.
    THANKS

Hi Steven and welcome to the MadHouse:welcome:.

When you get a chance please swing by the Introductions part of the forum and say Hi to the rest of the folks on here. Be sure to add at least one photo of your VFR or it won't be long before folks will be raggin on you!

    :focus:

As for the fuel pump have a close look at this schematic...

Note especially the Fuel cut relay - if it is faulty then no power will be reaching the fuel pump. Its just possible that after two years sat unused - the relay has jammed. Check for live feed on the output side of the relay/input to the fuel pump. If that is not going live when the ignition is turned on then your fuel pump may not be faulty.

Hope that helps - let us know how you get on.

Did you try to hard wire 12v power to the fuel pump just to see if it powers up? Its worth a shot because the fuel pump isnt cheap by any means.

    Thanks for your reply!

I put a volt meter on the brown fuel pump power plug, and it has voltage for about 2 seconds after key is switched ON, which I understand is normal, so it appears the relay/power is OK. I could do the fuel pump replacement myself, but due to it's location, am being very cautious about doing so as a leak would be invisible, and directly over cylinder head.. Considering removing tank, taking to Honda service for replacement.

Have found fuel pump on ebay for less than $40, it seems similar Honda branded fuel pump is over $250! YIKES.
