Fuel gauge fluctuates with speed of bike....reads close to full most of the time - 97 VFR

Hi guys, I'm a newer VFR750 (1997) owner and picked up a nice 97 back in June. I filled up the fuel tank a couple times and the fuel gauge was working fine. All of a sudden it stopped reading correctly and reads Full or close to Full all the time now. I noticed if my speed decreases while I'm riding it'll move down a little but not to the point where its reading accurately and if I speed up it goes back up to the Full mark. Anyone ever have this issue before? Any help would be appreciated.

 

I have a 97 as well. it goes to full when I fill it. then hangs around 1/2 even when it's near empty. Annoying but I just do what I do on my other bikes, watch the trip odo. Maybe this winter, I'll try to track it down.

check your tank connections. I bet there is some surface corrosion on the wiring that connects from tank to main harness
