    Hey Gents,

Am replacing my '98 VFR 800 gas tank, and everything is going swimmingly, except that I can't seem to remove one of the rubber mounts from the front of the old tank. The new tank didn't come with any, so I have to get these off the old one. Is there some trick to this I am missing?

And no, that is not a gas spill on the floor, those are stains from god-knows-what. It's a communal garage. Also, pocket knife.

Disregard. Apparently my tactic of "Hit it with a rubber mallet until the stuck washer falls off" works. I love that mallet....

    LOL!!

One of the less volatile solvents might get that part unstuck. Naptha, paint thinner aka mineral spirits or even gasoline.

Good that you didn't use the now famous VFR torque hammer.

Are those the infamous Chinese manufactured fairings? Or did you paint your yellow fairings white?

I crashed the bike, then repaired and painted the fairings. But they are the chinese fairings, which were on the bike when I bought it.

    So...both?

And this paint job is crap. A quick fix before I buy new fairings. For better painting by me, check out this: http://wp.me/p3PrCz-1s

My blog, with the process of painting my wife's BMW F650 CS.

Who would have thunk it? Very rare to see a white 5 Gen, they look sharp too IMO. Nice little website you got there. Good luck with your upgrade, of course pictures are expected now that you revealed your plan!

    Cheers

Hah, Not sure when the upgrade is going to happen, if it does. I'm between jobs at the moment, so we might just drop back to a 1 bike family. Which sucks, since my wife's BMW is very uncomfortable for two people.

So. I guess you would have to take the bus while your wife rides then?

Good call on the cable ties for welding. Plastic (abs) coathangers work too. Even a dumpster dived piece of trashed fairing can be used as a weld or even a patch.
