My friend has a 1999 VFR 800 he has the PC3 on it . When we went looking for maps to load on the laptop to take with us . we seen one the was a European map and it said for 98 octane . he will be running 104 octane is this map ok to use on USA bike if he is running 104 octane ?

    I don't know for sure.

Probably not an equal comparison, but while my car has a chip specifically burned to run on 93 octane, the due that burned the chip assured me I'm fine with 104 octane. I've been running 100 octane in it lately, and no issues (according to the aftermarket scanner and computer I have hooked up to it).

Well unless you're running 13:1 or higher compression, have it super lean or have advanced the shit out of your motor, you won't really get anything more with 104 than what you get with 93. Race gas does have a neat smell, that's a plus. The higher octane doesn't make horse power per sey. It keeps you out of detonation for race engines. Which the VFR is not no matter what map you put in it.

That European 98 is a RON number, not a MON like we use. So European 98 (RON) = USA 93 octane (PON).

Most advance I've run is 42 degrees. The car did run 6.02 in the quarter. It ain't gonna work for a stock motor though. Better to advance the cams most likely. Unless you need top end. Then go the other way.

We went racing sunday . My friend on his 5th gen used 112 octane Cam2 with lead . bike ran great . 10:99 @121mph If nothing else the 112 octane cleans the carbon off his pistons and valves . And yes you can use lead gas as long as your not running cats . here is a pic of him and myself launching the bikes together 6th gen and 5th gen . I'm the one closest to the camera on my 2007 10734276_10204052550426860_4080588555480262458_n.jpg 644366_10204052550786869_131803454607515591_n.jpg

All right - so I'll be the safety police. You can run at a drag strip wearing jeans? To each his own, but the strip actually allows that?

Kevlar backed jeans and yes they allow it , but If you run faster then a 10:99 then it has to be leather . The track is safer the the street . There is a better chance of you going down on the street at 60mph then at the track at 120mph . Controlled environment .

KJ - Personally, I don't care what anyone wears. Not my skin. I was more asking about the strip, figuring from a liability issue about.

There's no liability issues at that track everybody must sign a waiver . That's any track nowadays lol

Coming from me in the insurance business, I can tell you that waiver wouldn't mean much if someone got all jacked up at a track. Any lawyer worth their salt would tear the place apart, regardless of what the waiver says. At a minimum, the insurance carrier would settle before going to litigation. Case in point, why does the track make you wear leather if you're running 10.99 or less. Because that's where it gets really dangerous?

Not picking a bone with you KJ - just viewing it from a different perspective.

How would I know why they set certain rules in place ? I don't own the place . If I did it wouldn't be open to the public it would be for me and my friends only . And I'm sure that they have their ass covered . This ain't no backwoods race track this is a multi million dollar race track . One of the biggest IHRA tracks in the states .
Anyway at the end of the day I make my and choices . And you know what they say about opinions .
So how did this post turn into a liability post for a track ?

    Steady yourself, Francis.

I was just having a conversation. All I'm saying is that if you think a track - and I don't care if its in Daytona or East Bumblefuck - wouldn't be on the hook for any liability to a person racing on said track, that's not the case. You mentioned they make you sign a waiver, I'm saying that wouldn't matter. A simple disagreement of opinions. And yes, I know what they say about those.

OK, lets get this back on topic: Make sure you post up some time slips!
