Today I traded my VFR for a 2013 Concours 14. I wasn't in the market for a new bike, but it was too good a deal to pass up. It was a brand new, left over 2013. Original price was $16,500 and he sold it to me for $10,999 out the door. I also got a new Jacket and helmet out of the deal. With my trade, I feel like I made out like a bandit. It has a 3 year warranty and the first oil change is free. I'm gonna miss my VFR, but I put almost 300 miles on the Connie today and I don't think I'm gonna miss the VFR as much as I thought I would. Don't get me wrong, I loved the VFR. I started to keep it also but just couldn't justify it right now with two daughters in college. Now, about the new bike in case anyone cares...
The best part about the Connie is the motor. It's deceivingly fast. The bike is super smooth, soaks up bumps very well and doesn't feel that heavy once moving past parking lot speeds. It has one of the best stock seats I've ever sat on. This one has a lowering kit and bar risers and has a very good riding position. My wife said the passenger pegs are a little higher than she would like, but not a deal breaker. I used the heated grips tonight and they are great. The windshield gives good protection when all or most of the way up. The brakes are very, very good....however the linked brakes are not as seamless as the VFR which I don't like. I'm still gonna hang out here on the forums for as long as yall let me, and I'll give another update once I've logged some more miles. I hate that I no longer own a VFR, but maybe one day I'll get another one. Here's some pics...

As someone who used to sell bikes, believe me they were as happy selling it as you were buying it. To be able to get it off the books is a big deal. It looks big and comfy. Maybe not as agile as the Viffer, but I bet it does better than it looks like it will, most bikes do.

A friend of mine has a Connie and I've chased him all over Colorado on my VFR's. Most the time, I can't keep up! He's able to throw it through the twisties like a full on sportbike. That bike is in the top 3 of my VFR alternate options.

    How does the insurance compare?
When I traded in my kawa 600 for the VFR800, I actually got a refund...I guess it's considered more "mature"

Connie's a great bike...if I could afford it it would be one of two that I'd consider. Only reason it's not #1 is that it's friggin hard to work on..

Congratulations. The VFR is a great bike, but is more slanted toward sport than touring. The Concours puts you way closer to the true touring side and with that comes the luxuries that it has. I think that on the Honda side, the comparable offering would be the ST1300 although you could argue that it is closer to a GoldWing. Enjoy the new bike.

That's a great deal. They fixed the hot air on your leg and soft cam (or was it valve) wear long ago too. Nice find!

The dealer will make up some of the loss on the sale of the Concours by re- selling the VFR. The "original" price as quoted by most dealers is MSRP. The trade in value from a dealership on any bike is going to be lowball.

The Concours and the VFRs (most of them) are great bikes but when dealing with a dealer you are on their turf. They are doing what they do every day and you are not.

Sold bikes too.. Data on buy/sell bikes can be found on KBB and NADA sites.. Math with missing numbers is algebra not addition and subtraction.

Time for an update and to answer a few questions. My insurance went up about 50%, but since my insurance was cheap anyway it doesn't bother me. As far as trade in....I got a really good deal on the vfr when I bought it 2.5 years ago, so the trade in I got for it was only $700 less than I originally payed for it. That was the main reason I traded it instead of keeping it.
I've now had the Connie for 3 weeks and I've put 2100 miles on it so far(Yes, I ride a lot). I'm still loving it. My biggest complaint is still the linked brakes, especially when applying the rear brake. It's way too sensitive and gives you way too much front...but after playing with the different settings of the abs I've found a setting that is acceptable. That's really my only complaint so far, other than no cruise control. It's way more touring oriented than the VFR, so it's really not fair to compare the two. I loved my vfr and came close to keeping it instead of trading it. But the Connie is a better fit for me for 90% of my riding(long commute to work year round in all weather, long trips to the mountains, lots of 2up riding, etc...) and is much easier on my back, wrists, knees and butt. I've ordered passenger lowering floorboards to replace the rear pegs, a rear trunk and a backrest and I'm waiting on those to come in. The trunk and backrest are supposed to be quick detach, so I will only install those when needed for longer rides. That's my update so far. I'm still gonna continue to lurk around the forum. I haven't warmed up to the Connie Forum's yet. So far they seem kinda boring.:disturbed:

I instantly fell in love with the new Concours when it came out in '08 based purely on aesthetics then later on the reviews naming it best touring bike a couple years in a row. It was just priced too far out of my reach and I was convinced Kawasaki needed to work out some of the kinks - at least I told myself that was a good reason not to cry myself to sleep over not being able to get one. I still think it's an amazing bike. Now that the initial excitement over it has lessened, however, I realize that it's not really suited for my type of riding - short commutes, weekend jaunts through the local mountains. Sure, it would be fine for those things but it would feel like such a waste to have it and not use it as the ICBM it was designed to be. I still like looking at them though. Congrats on your purchase!

The VFR was not cutting it for my wife as far as 2-up riding goes which is why we bought a Spyder RT (GoldWing equivalent) last year and it is worth every penny as far as comfort goes on the longer rides. I know exactly what you're talking about. Luckily, I came back to the VFR for my solo riding as the Spyder is just too big to muscle around. I'm glad you're liking the new bike.

that is one beautiful bike!!! I looked at few before I bought my VFR. Not really sure where between sport and touring I wanted to be. The people around here just want way to much money for them used with lots of miles on them. If I would have found that deal you got... I'd own 2 bikes now :eagerness: Still loving my VFR and I'm am not planning on selling it ever, but still looking at the BMW K1200GT's and the Concours's. Planning on picking one up eventually somewhere. I think eventually my son will get my VFR assuming that we are not riding sky bikes by the time I'm ready to give it up. Good find and congrats on the new bike

Congrats risgett on the new Connie. Insurance is higher on my '97 VFR than my '06 Yamaha FJR1300. At my height, 5'8" and shorter legs, an ST1100 was tall and heavy. The FJR is a bit lower and easier to handle. Now you can wire in some Gerbing gear and stay warm!

Congrats and don't worry about anyone running you off. We all like VFRs, but nearly every one I have met rides other bikes, too. Hell, I rarely ride my VFR now that I bought a BMW f800gs.
