Didn't do anything, but I did order a set of Michelin Pilot Road 3's. One step closer to getting her back on the road.

    Merry Christmas All!!!!

I just went for a quick errand ride. I know I am preaching to the choir, but damn I love this bike! I can't see myself getting rid of it. After the ride I gave it a pat and said thanks!

Installed Billet Bar Risers from Rob at MotoPumps.com. Nice product, color matches very well, better than no color at all. Easy installation, one step not on instructions is to remove top triple clamp bolt to free up bracket that secures cable and hoses, otherwise you can't lift off bar assembly. Should be easier on wrists and back now.

Started to change oil on my '14 yesterday, drained oil OK, but filter wouldn't budge. Not much room to work. Cap wrench from NAPA was a POS, being stamped it was sloppy and spun on filter. Went to AutoZone around the corner and got a cast aluminum cap wrench, fit better, but still slipped. Tried channel locks, no luck. Getting late, quit for the day. Started again today at 45 degrees! Removed upper side panels for better access, took out bolts to "swing" radiator for more room (per instructions). Radiator only moved about 3/8" to 1/2". Getting frustrated! Put cast cap wrench back on and used two self tapping screws through flange into filter, bingo, it broke loose. Filter came off, but rubber seal was stuck to engine, who ever did 600 mile service really was sloppy and over tightened.

Here is best solution, installed new Amsoil Filter and torqued drain plug.
I made myself an easy way to fill oil without dribbling all over with funnels:

Pump is from Harbor Freight for $12.
Pail and lid is from Lowes about $8.
Bought my Amsoil in gallon jugs, work great, especially if you have more than one bike.
If you make one of these, run some cheap oil through pump first, saw some debris first couple of pumps.

Nice pictures! I just did an Amsoil change on my 93, both VFRS use it, my EX uses Mobil 1. Nice idea with set screws in the oil filter cup socket. I use a nasty screw driver and a big mother farking hammer on some stuff to pierce it and "go-to-town."

I remember working on a locomotive doing this and sweating my pants to the point where it felt like I jumped in my pool! Had to change my panta-lonies :loco: :pound:

Not much room for the screw driver trick, didn't want to mangle filter more than I already had.

Gazed out the back patio door to the deck outside and temp gauge said -13*C (about 15*F). The kids and I stared at the large volume of snow sitting in the back yard, then we heard the tell tale sound of tires spinning on ice and a loud crunch. We went to the living room and looked out front and there stood a young kid beside his Subaru WRX STi and swearing rather loudly. He came sliding around the corner and smashed his car sideways into the curb in front of our house, missing my wife's Tahoe by about 2 feet. I wandered out to the end of the driveway to see if I could be of any help and noticed what all the swearing was about. Both front wheels did not appear to be facing the same direction. Right front wheel was pointing straight, but the left front wheel was pointing toward the center of the car and was angled out at top by about 20 degrees. The kids and I invited him inside for a coffee, and to wait while we called the tow truck. Since my wife and I are BCAA members, so at least his tow was free. The repairs to his car however, hmmmmmmm, not so much I don't think. He purchased the car new and had only been driving it for a few months and with all wheel drive, traction control and ABS brakes, he didn't think he would ever need winter tires. He casually laughed at the whole incident and mentioned that his first stop after the car fixed would be the tire shop for some winter tires.

After the tow truck departed, the kids and I went back in to the house and the kids and I spent some time organizing the tool box in the garage. Then we sat on the bike and made Vroom Vroom noises. Once they had had their fill of pretend riding we went upstairs and watched my daughters now favorite Christmas present, the new Disney movie "Frozen". I think by the time I go back to work next week, I should be able to recite the lines of all the characters from memory. LOL.
