Another weekend free and I got some more things done on MY HRC replica build. I finally did the handlebar converison. What a difference it made in the looks of the bike. It took me some messing around to get the 1/4 turn throttle set where it needed to be, and I also installed the later model CBR switchgear. This was an aftermarket unit from K&S Technologies nicely done and looks like it belongs there for me.
I also swapped the Fuel gauge to the left side of the gauge unit where normally the temp unit sets. I also was going to swap out the speedo needle that broke last week but I found that Honda in their infinite wisdom apparently made the shaft of the tach and the speedo slightly different so I couldn't just use the needle from the tach I took out. That was a bummer. Thankfully I have several other dash units and will just get a needle from one of those.
Seeing the bike with the handlebars on now just makes it a huge jump in the direction of where the whole build is going. I am excited as these seemingly small things are adding up to the big picture and finished unit.
I started to make the cutouts for for making the metal Dzus fastner brackets to help hold those side covers like the race bikes did.
I took a few pictures for you so you can all check it out. You can certainly see the difference from the pictures in the above posts. IMG_2163.jpg IMG_2166.jpg IMG_2164.jpg IMG_2167.jpg IMG_2169.jpg IMG_2174.jpg

Seems like a while since I last posted an update. The picture here you can only really see the front fender is now correct and I replicated the HRC front fender brace.

I have been busy with the project though. I have been very lucky to acquire a complete HRC Kitted motor for my build along with one of the HRC Radiators and some other parts. Never thought I would be able to get my hands on some of these parts. Motor has most of the right goodies. Ported heads, the HRC 1mm over pistons, Jet ti con rods, cams and a few other things. It does not have the gear drive for the cams though. I also managed to one of the HRC Radiators for the bike. Slightly damaged but very fixable. Pretty exciting for me.

Radiator is on its way to get repaired. When it comes back I will then have to make the mounting brackets for it and get them welded to the frame. It will truly give the bike that HRC look that I want for my build.

So hopefully I will have some new things to post on the project soon!

Looks really good Dan. I am a bit jealous of those HRC parts. Nicely done.

Thanks, Hard to believe that I have them. I still have to check some things with the motor before I swap them. I also was able to find out that the HRC oil cooler bracket won't fit with the pipes I have. Mine were made for a stock bike and they run the front down tubes out wide by the frame rails so they clear the stock lower radiator. On the HRC bikes the front exh come together and go down in the center because they don't use the lower radiator. That allows the oil cooler bracket to sit there. I will just have to make some changes in mine to accomodate it.
I can't wait to fire that thing up. I have already warned my neighbors! hahaha. I still have more to do but it is getting closer.
I was also surprised how close that HRC engine cover I made is to the original. It made me even more pleased.

    Hey everybody,
Thought I would try and do a small update. I took the photo's while trial attaching the HRC radiator. Checking things to make sure how it will fit. Found that the pipe I am using makes mounting the HRC radiator in as close as it should not possible. The pipe I have runs the front down tubes out by the frame rails so it can clear the stock lower radiator. That means the bottom of the HRC unit has to be out away from the frame to clear the exhaust. The HRC exhaust the head pipes run to the middle and down. That also allows for the oil cooler bracket to attache the way it does on the race bike. It is out front and then goes back to the lower frame rails. I think for now I will space the radiator out farther as the easiest solution. Thought some of you might like to see how it is fitting up and looking. I also have for the moment put a set of red bodywork on it as I used the RWB pieces in the earlier pictures as part of the deal to get the HRC kitted motor and radiator.

Getting closer to being a runner.
