My guess is that the black parts are paint. Because the owner decided to paint some of the fairing black of green or tittypink does not mean there is damage. What I am seeing is a fairly low mileage bike that IMO has been garaged. The 90-93 US models so far as I know were all red. Red fades. I don't think the paint on the lower fairing parts faded unless the bike was garaged upside down. Only harleydoods do things like that. The decal on the tank is embedded the vinyl graphic on the side panels is not.

I painted the same panels and the wheels on my mach 1 91 yellow. The color was "chrome yellow medium" Did this in aboot 1994.

Repaint in 2010 in orange and black.

Price? Not a clue.. This cannot be fairly determined from one photo.

I'd love to take a small knife and scrape it somewhere just to see what shows up under that black... that and talk to the previous owners but, wishing gets me nowhere. Thanks everyone, I will let you know when I get another look at it maybe this weekend.

As was said by others, the 1990 bikes were all one solid color. In the US, that was red. The 4th gens had the black lower cowl. BTW, where are you located?

Yes, all red, italian red, with decals on the sides, embedded logo on the tank. I'm in Atlanta and the bike is in north GA.

You sir are correct, Italian red is the color.

Here's another thing to keep in mind on your search. I know everyone wants to find that super low mile bike, but that may not be the wisest move. Machines deteriorate over time due to lack of use. Oil sludges up, gas tarnishes everything, o-rings dry up, gaskets harden and fail, coolant seperates and the water rusts out the radiator, thermostat, and engines. Batteries don't do well either. A bike that's been ridden an average of 500 miles a year may be needing a whole lot more work than you think. Just look at some of the other threads with guys snapping up low mile bikes. Most have issues they need to sort out. What you should be looking for is something along the lines of that one bike in the classifieds. I know that one is far from you, and not a practical buy, but use it as a template.

All the bad things I know of that are in my nightmares...arrrgh!
But you're right though, one that is ridden is better than one that's been sittin'.

You guys! A third gen has metal/tin lower fairing panels, exactly the ones that are painted black on the bike in the photograph, so its not to hide damaged plastics. I think somebody has tried to make it look more like a fourth gen. thats all, nothing sinister, as for buying a 5th or 6th gen, WHY?

You know, thats actually a good point that no one has made yet.
But no, I'm not hating on any gem's. I found this bike for sale and started doing my homework.

What is left behind is the red paint under the black paint.

And take the volt meter with you in next visit to check the charging. Dead battery refers to the dead R/R and maybe the worst thing, burned stator.

Don't all Italian women have some sort of mustache?
And yep, the battery was just dead from old age and no use. Charge numbers look good. Thanks all!
