    Hello all
I just bought a beautiful red VFR800 and am looking forward to some multi-day rides over the next few months.
However, like many others, I get so excited about riding I forget where I'm going so need the comforting warm glow of a GPS. I have done some Googling and found some web sites that imply they might have a GPS ball stem mount (like this), which is what I'm after, but I cant find a definitive product that will work

I also need to power the GPS and currently have a SAE lead coming from the battery, but would like something more grown up to connect the GPS to that switches off with the key. I have seen the Honda kit for GBP70 but am nervous about drilling holes so soon after purchasing it.

I've searched VFR world but thought this would also make a good first post.

Does anyone have some helpful hints please?

If you want to do a USB mount, there is this option from BurnsMoto that has the option to be SAE connected, or direct connect to the battery. It is fairly affordable and is "weatherproof". It can be found here: http://burnsmoto.com/usb-power-socket-weatherproof.php . This is what I plan on putting on my 5th gen.

RAMmounts seem to be the most popular option and a fair number of people do the stem mount and have no complaints about it. There are a couple people on here who have said the it will still rotate a bit, or that they have lost the nut on the bottom of it. I have that kit for mine, but I am also going to try and connect it with the U-Bolt mount (sans the U-bolts) to my tank bolts. Here are a couple of other posts that talk about it, albeit on different gens.

Just bought some RAM gear for mine this last week. Got most of it from Amazon. Have got this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001RHVS8I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 but doesn't fit as stated, however you can make it fit with a bit of tinkering.RAM stuff is not cheap but its extremely well made and should last well.

I have a powered tank bag with a double outlet. That let's me power the GPS and my phone or iPod if necessary. I also got a stem Mount from a guy on one of the forums and it's a solid as a rock. I can't tell which forum I am on with this tapatalk app tho. I will come back to this thread on my computer and post a pic.[ uploadfromtaptalk1428677620584.jpg

This is the gay midget porn site. Not sure how your Ipod is relevant, Steve. See you this weekend. And Bilbo says hello and that he misses you.

Of course I wasn't being serious. And call me Pliskin.

OK - back to topic: Who's the manufacturer on your tank bag? Does it just hook right up to the battery, or require wiring modification so that its only powered when the bike is running?

I understand why people complain about the RAM mount, the cone isn't large enough. So you have to pad it out to make a fit. Then the ball part can still rotate. All in all a poor design.

The picture above looks like a much better fit. Do you know the make of it?

Regarding power options, I haven't taken the plunge and bought anything yet. Any ideas, aside from the BurnsMoto one. I think a switchable option might be best but the Honda kit is 75-80 pounds. Does anyone use the optimate 1mA thing?

My tank bag is a Cortech and I ordered a Powerlet setup to add power. The Ram mount is made by a guy on the Vfrworld forum. I think his name was Fred. I can get contact info or post a link to yhr thread over there.

Exactly! Cone is not thick enough. Only expands enough when you tighten it right down. Also the rubber upstand is too long. Solved that by cutting it shorter as it was too flexible. All in all not impressed with it.

I too bought the expanding rubber triple tree ball mount and wasn't happy with it. It would twist around whenever I messed with my phone. I decided to try the M8 handlebar clamp base mount here: https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-367U It works quite well. I actually have more room to insert my key, while the actual phone itself is in the same spot. And it doesn't rotate! Couldn't be happier with it. I've since removed the other mount shown in the picture.

Edited: Not sure why the pictures got sideways but I think you get the idea.
