I have definately decided I do not want to trade my 05 VFR for a Ninja 1000 and I am selling my 2k VFR. I found a Dealer selling an 08 VFR with ABS and I am tempted to trade my 05 VFR for it. My 05 VFR does not have ABS, but I have a done some mods (grips, levers, Power Commander and Leo Vince slipon), and I am am very happy with it. My 05 VFR only has a lil over 13k on it. The 08 VFR is the same color as mine, completely stock with ABS, and less miles than mine. Not sure if it is worth doing a trade for the 08 - need some opinions. Greatly appreciated.

Have you discussed pricing details of the trade? How much out of pocket would you have to give to get the newer bike? Your aftermarket stuff would not have much add-on value in regards to the trade so if you decide to do it I would try to return the bike back to stock before trading it.

are you going to do same mods if you get 08? if so, you're trading for ABS. Next question is, are you riding a lot in wet condition and how much out of your pocket?

Good question VFR714 - I used to ride year round in all conditions but now that I am older and retired so I do not do a lot of riding in rain or bad weather. I am under the impression I would not need to do the Power Commander and pipe mods on the 08 VFR and will probably only do grips, levers and Windscreen on the 08 VFR. As far as pricing goes it is gonna cost me about $2k for the trade.

The farkles are worth roughly half. This is according to "The Bluebook " type pricing. The dealer is going to try to tell you otherwise.

13K on a VFR is zip as far as mileage goes. If you think you have to have the brakes go for it. If not, why trade?

What you will be offered in trade for your bike will be zip as well. These figures are also in "Bluebook".

IMO, i won't trade and will invest 2k to 05. Unless you don't like your 05 anymore.

He's getting more than just ABS going from an 05 to an 08...clear front signals, slightly better vtec engagement, better looking tach, etc. I like ABS, so I would definitely do it, if it were me.

Dayuum DriverDave now I want to do the trade again. Lol. How do you like the 2014 VFR? I checked it out and thought is was not quite as comfortable as the older VFR 800s. It does have some nice updates though.

I love it. I have no regrets from trading my 07 for it. I find the comfort/ergos to be almost identical to the 6th gen. But the handling and overall lighter/smaller feel make it even more fun in the canyons. My sportbike friends keep telling me how fast I am now.

If the price is right, and you can put your '05 back to stock to keep your upgrades, I would do it. '08 is obviously newer, so higher value, and newer parts (less wear and tear). It also has upgraded/updated v-tech, clear signals and tail light, ABS, and the ABS models also have a remote rear shock adjuster (if I'm not mistaken).

I bought an '03 recently because it was the right bike at the right price, but I would love to get an '08 or '09 just for the reasons mentioned above.

    This ^^^

You mentioned you don't ride in the rain anymore, still the ABS option is at least a $500 investment. Trade it!
j/k, but I'd trade it if I were you.

I agree with this completely! Three years newer with ABS is certainly worth $2k IMO. I would do it!

Everyone is leaving the obvious out of the discussion... keep your Y2K! I would invest some money in the suspension and that will be all the bike you will need! Unless you skip the 6th gen and go to a 7th gen.

I like my 06 and didn't even consider anything older, I have abs and it will stop with just using the front lever=I am use to a r6 so I use the back brake too, but only lightly. If I want to stop fast just grab the front brake lever. It would seem the 06 and up are better bikes for most people.

Why trade if your very happy with your bike?????
You sound bored, like what was mentioned, invest in your y2k and you'll have the best of both worlds.
