Anyone had any experience with motorcycle covers? I have returned to the work force and ride to and from on the bike. Problem is, I park in an extremely dusty environment. Actually a truck compound where the surface is basically hard packed river silt. Even when they cover the surface with crushed rock, that sinks into the sandy soil very quickly and it becomes dusty. This is an industrial area.

I am not particularily interested in water proof covers, rather sonething to keep the dust off the bike so that I am not rubbing all that gritt into the paint when I get off work at midnight. My biggest concern is, would the pipes be too hot for the cover to be put on right after a one hour highway commute?

    What are your experiences?

Got a Cycle Gear cover on sale to keep neighborhood cats who like to spray anything plastic from spraying bike & exhaust. Nothing worse than the smell of cat spray on hot exhaust! (not the same as urine, comes from a different gland). Keeps bike out of sight, out of mind for nosy people. Bottom has elastic make it fit snug, but also a PIA to get on and off (gets hung up on pegs etc.), but worth it.

I probably have the same cover as Allyance, as I got mine from CG as well. I use it when I do any over night trips, mostly to keep the dew and water off that typically collects over night. It's just a really light cover similar to camping tents. Not sure how would do with dust and silt.

If it keeps the dew at bay, I am sure it will work pretty good with the dust too. I presume neither of you had any issues with putting these covers on right after a long ride? The heat on the pipes did not cause any melting issues with the cover? That is my biggest concern.

Since I have the top case rack, it helps keep the cover a little more away from the exhaust. Plus I have the 2Bros cans which seem slightly smaller than the OEM and only one actually gets used.

So. Are these covers basically a one size fits all...or most? They are not style or brand specific? I realize that you would get a different cover for a Vespa than you would a Gold Wing. Of course, you need a garage for a Harley,

The Bilt covers at CG are sized Sm/Md/Lg. Without the top case rack and/or top case on, the medium fit the VFR just fine. However, with the top case rack and/or top case on, the large was needed. Right now the one I have are going for $25 at CG http://www.cyclegear.com/BILT-Motorcycle-Cover

Retirement is not the end all for everyone. It is OK to keep working if that is what you want.

Me? I found I had all this time on my hands to look at things to do that all cost money. More time to think of spending money, yet less money to spend. Maybe I will try retiring again when I am 65, in 5 years. Retirement number three.....

A good side of being back to work is the commute on the bike. I commute even further than I did before. Sure glad I kept all my gear. It has been chilly at 1:00 am for the ride home.

She is...until I get home at 01:30. I was looking at those half covers. I think they would serve my purpose well. I don't really need a full cover if it is just to keep the settling dust off the bike. Storage space is precious.

I usually use a guardian cover. If I have to put the bike away quickly after a ride, I can tuck the cover around the rear wheel to keep it clear of the exhaust. It helps to have a set of saddlebags on it though.

Dowco, Gaurdian, it has a lifetime guarantee that I took them up on once so far. Bike has some shade for a good part of the day, if you don't cover your ride up here, the FL sun will burn you another bung hole. :pound:
