Its been birthday time for the red scooter the last couple of weeks

    Oil and filter change
    New denso iridium plugs
    Valve check and adjustment
    New calve cover bolt seals
    cooling system flush
    carbs off
all water pipe orings and gaskets replaced
    thermostat checked
Fin straightening on oil cooler and radiator
General cleaning in the disassembled parts

    to be done soon
New samco hose kit going on this weekend
    new chain and sprockets
    new coolant

Cant decide if I should replace the airfilter ad the one in it looks to be only a few thousand km old. I have 3 NOS ones in the box so cost is not an issue.

sounds good, I picked up one of those right hand head-light on/off switches off an Austrian Ebay auction. The shipping was crazy and I was thanking someone up there when it worked after the install.

You gona synchronize your carburetors I hope with an official Honda bowl gasket/needle seat kit for each one :mech:

    Cheers

Refitted all the rest of the cooling system today, no leaks so far.
Stripped and cleaned out the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. New seal in slave cylinder.
Next is the replacement of the chain and sprockets with the original sizes. The PO had put on a 15 t front.

Just for the hell of it I put a new piston seal in when I cleaned it up.

Thanks for sharing those pictures, in some ways they are better than "porn" thats how out of whack I am. You will have a nice reliable motorcycle after your done with those over-hauls. I did t-stat when I did the carburetor service for both of my Generation Three bikes. I have those Samco hoses on my 91 as the bike was a high mileage unit and thought it would be a prudent thing to do. The 93 has no-where the mileage so I just went with the t-stat and new o-ring.

My expeience on the clutch slaves is to just replace them, if you can clean it and get a good seal afterward, more power to you. My 93 has new slave like my other bike along with a braided clutch line. The nice thing was getting a used rear caliper for donor pistons which ended up coming with a rear braided brake line, so now the 93 has steel lines throughout. Wifes dinner calls, ttyl  Gen 4 bikes are almost as good as Gen3 bikes :pound: your missing the far out aluminum frame though  :peace:

We will have to agree to disagree on that one.

Finally got carbs back on yesterday. took less than a minute with no dramas. Maybe soaking the insulators in near boiling water for a few minutes helped.
Hopefully will get her started tomorrow. Despite having the black scooter to ride I miss the red one.

    FIRE IN THE HOLES

Finally got her restarted today, tried to burp as much air out of the cooling system as possible but at least she is running and running well.
Now to put the new chain and sprocket on and all the panels back on.

Put the headlight and front fairing on yesterday and discovered I have lost one of the little fairing mounting bolts- annoying but happens.
My spare samco hose kit has arrived and been put on the shelf for a back up.

I do have an irritating intermittent drip from the inner spigot of the water pump. Will drop a couple of drops then nothing for a week, then a couple of drops.
Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Have now replaced leaking hose and refilled/bled clutch and have a rideable bike again (except for putting all the fairings back on of course).
I do have a set of genuine later model mirrors to put on instead of the condom mirrors.

Nice nice nice.. first thing I noticed was the silver wing on the tank, it differs from the US spec.. Yep agree, you picked the best of the lot, all though the 5th gen is a close runner up and in some places better, but over all the 4th is the sweetest. IMO. on the rr thing i got a Elctro sport version, as it has huge fins just saying. never an issue afterwards, but I also found the reason being corroded junction connector so that needed replaced as well, luck had it the Pacific coast uses the same one. and is available via Honda, so that was a great save. FWIW I ran Pirelli Corsa Diablos 33 psi front and rear, stuck like glue, gave a lot of feed a back, and confidence. also added race tech springs and valving up front then had a WP rear shock. I thought about switching to a different gear, but this baby just seemed spot on. so I left well enough alone.

yes, get rid of those condom mirrors. aesthetically, makes a HUGE difference. Nice to see another rider as detail oriented about the cooling system as I am. between that and the brakes, I probably have enough OCD issues to keep any family practice doctor busy.

Bike is now back together and ready for the road after a very long major service (about 5 months).
Nothing leaks (yet) and the bike runs beautifully.
Even put a new gear pedal on to replace the slightly scratched one.

The mirrors do look a bit better, they are off a 2000 VFR.

Just installed a VFRness on my 94 - it's a nicely made and fits well. Also put a new spare OEM R/R under the seat. Next I plan to install a cooling fan as the R/R is still quite hot. Thanks for posting a pic of the cooling fan on yours - how is it wired?
