Ive had several bikes over the years.. Honda ST1300, CBR1000rr, and an RC51 rvt1000. So far my (new to me) 08' VFR800 is pretty awesome. It has around 3600 miles and is all stock. Ill be updating my user settings soon but its getting late here.

I'm new to the forum and new to the VFR world. Any heads up warnings or must do things would be appreciated. It seems like tires are going to be a first so far. haha Probably going to order a set of Michelin Pilot Road 4's as I ride in rain at times.

Im looking forward to posting on the board.

Already have the PS4's on the way, Delkevic exhaust on the way and bookmarked tabs for free mods. The VTEC is hilarious. It reminds me of my old S2000.

Welcome to the asylum. We've been watching you for a while and were wondering when you would go over the fence and get your VFR.

3600 miles on and 08? You have your work cut out for you if you have any idea of riding it to death. An 06 is rumored to have 118,000 miles and is still running strong. The rider? Well. He is slowing down a bit.

I'm going to make a decent go at it. My workplace is over 50 miles from home. 100+/workday will add up. Im currently doing research on what oil/filter to go with. There are sooooo many opinions with no data Im not sure which direction to head for this. Likely going with the factory filter but beyond that I'm not sure.....

Oil opinions are like door to door salesmen. They all have their own reasons for their choices. I use the Bosch filter which I buy wherever it is cheap. Often Walmart. My bike, wife's and son's cars use same filter believe it or not. For oil, I used to use expensive Motul semi synthetic. But switched to Shell Rotela T6 full synthetic 5w40. Same oil in the bike, two cars, and my Duramax truck which takes a lot. It too can be found just about anywhere really cheap.

I feel like I've missed something here. I have run T6 since I can remember in vehicles but did not know you could run it in a motorcycle. I guess for years I was told that you can only run "motorcycle oil" in a motorcycle because of the wet clutch. Is it the exact same T6 you use in a car? Would you happen to have the oil filter part #?

Many here use the Rotella T6. Makes sure to check the label for friction additives which will bugger up your wet clutch. I don't know if T6 is available with that in any event but someone may correct me on that. The down side to this, is the cars call for oil with friction reducers in them for economy reasons. Then again, the mileage we get with a Honda Civic, I am not concerned. Besides, my wife and son put the gas in those cars. The duramax gets poor economy when I am pulling the RV so I don't consider any fuel economy anyways on that one.

The filter number is 3323. I think they are all the same number for our bikes regardless of manufacturer. Bosch makes a couple or three different quality filters for this 3323. You can get them as cheap as 5 bucks or so here, then you have $5.00 worth of capabilities from the filter. Most here do not put enough mileage on their bikes in a year to worry about a couple bucks on a better filter. Really, how often a year would you change your oil? Once, maybe twice at the outside? Some here more often, like I used to, but most people here do not do that kind of riding. I don't anymore except every second year, I have been going to R3 in California, and pair that up with a tour to God knows where. Usually break down someplace, pay through the nose for repairs then back on my way.

    Good luck.

And yes. Same exact oil from same container goes in everything. This way I only have one or two oil containers in the garage instead of one different one for each vehicle I work on.

Wow. That would be great.. Ive been dumping $50+ into every oil change on all the bikes Ive owned prior to the VFR. All in all what does it matter. I had maybe done 4 oil changed a year at most.

Yupo. When I was using Motul, I was into it for $80 or so up here for oil and filter. We like to pay more for things than the rest of the western world.

BTW. You are likely to break a couple of those stupid Honda faring clips. Poor design and they are stupid expensive. Try these. You can buy a package of 10 for what you would normally pay for one Honda clip:http://www.boltmotorcyclehardware.com/products/sport-bike/sport-bike-rivets.html

The M6 are the ones you want. Push button. Don't get the screw type. They fit a bit tighter into the hole on the fairings but they are great clips.
