If you need side racks, I actually have a set of mounting plates for a Burgman (they came with the side cases I bought for my VFR) I'd let go cheap.

You might be able to McGuyver something to mount the plates to the bike. They are designed for monokey cases.

Good sugestion really! I must check that out. Lots of clamp on rail crap. Never even thought of it and I work in the marine industry.
I love the triathelon bars but holy shit thats some pricy stuff.
Laurie is a good rider. I have the backrest as well on the givi topcase. The only problem is braking. On my old BMW she has grabs but no topcase to lean on. She does fine on that bike and I dont even know she's there.

+1 on Heli Bars if you plan on doing over 300 miles a day for many days. Also Oxford heated grips are worth every penny, as is Tourmaster's heated jacket liner. Extends riding season and comfort immeasureably. Add some GIVI luggage and get touring!

I am a recent VFR800 owner too. I picked up a red '98 with 5636 miles. I was struck by the R/R demon after installing a VFRness, so I ordered and installed the Rick's Stator and R/R. The bike came with a Givi V46 top box and rack. I purchased the Givi side racks and a set of E360's. I also picked up a Sargent seat. I think the bike is 90% perfect in stock condition, but I am going to order the fork kit from Daughtery and the 929 rear shock, both setup to my weight.

    I had a '06 ST1300 before I bought this bike, and even though I'm big (6'-1" 215lbs), I actually like the 800 over the big 1300.

I like the SW Motech racks, just get the mount kit for givis. I have know idea how they would work with a top box though. I just run with a dry bag strapped to the cowl.

I wound up with a set of NOS Givi E45 side cases with handles on top. She hangs on to the handles now and loves it. I don't even know she's there except for the wheelies now. And her screams of course.

If OP still hangs around, I have a set of Heli-Bars I want to move.

Will your Heli-Bars fit a 4th gen? Love 'em on my 5th gen, but might be aquiring a 4th gen in the next few days and would love to have Heli-Bars on it also.

Checking the Helibar website, it says they only fit 1998-01 models. Though, if the forks didn't change between the two generations I bet they would work. Maybe measure the fork tube size?

Is the wing rack for side or top case? Also I am confused with both generations of them.

My wingrack will hold the cases on the side or the top rack. Sometimes I use just one case on the top rack. Othertimes, I use both cases on both of the side racks. I suppose if you were a heavy packer you could have 3 cases, one on the top rack and one on each of the side cases.

Correct will hold all three cases. This is not just the side type mount although you may be able to adapt it that way.

The one I bought from Motorcycle-Superstore attaches to the cowl bolts, passenger footpegs and a interconnection bar across the back below the tail light. it's pretty rigid once it's all bolted up. I swapped bike with a friend and rode behind the VFR. The side cases were solid, but the top case moved around a lot. (on the mounts, not in the rack)
