    'sup all?

    Been a while. What's new?
    cool

So I was on my way to the dentist the other day. Fear not. Just a cleaning. All is well up there. And I noticed that my volt meter was only giving me 7-8 volts

I'm lucky I noticed it because it's easy to overlook. First I'm thinking WTF? Then I started thinking who's the culprit? Stator or RR? Well, since I still had a good 10 min or so left in my commute to the dentist and a solid 20 back I started thinking how I can save battery power to get me home. I pull over, unplug the headlights and don't use my turn signals at all (not that it matters in LA) I just barely made it home. She was sputtering the whole way up the hill trying to spark.

I put a spare battery in, fired her up and started testing. Stator checked fine so I'm going with the RR.
I go on ebay and buy an R1 regulator FH012AA. Not bad. Only $40 including shipping. Didn't think I needed the latest greatest FH020AA since so many have had great success with the 012.
    Now the waiting game…

When I got home from work today (oh yeah, I'm riding that bitch to work and back on battery power alone. A good charge at night gives me plenty of juice to get to work and back) I wanted to get a better look at what I'm up against come delivery day and I noticed a black wire coming from the RR that turns into a wh/bl after the connector. It gives me 12v when powered up. How do I incorporate that into my fancy new Mosfet RR?

I'm pretty much gonna follow Reg's DIY but it doesn't look like the 5th gens have that extra wire.

Here's an after plug pic of the wire in question

    Thanks

R1 RR install went fine. A real PITA soldering those stator wires by oneself while still on the bike. Wish I took a pic but was completely over it by the end. Only 1 bolt used to mount in stock location. (a little loctite did the trick) All seems well thus far. Monitor wire back to the battery was simple enough. Thanks for all the help.

Installed Roadster cycle Shindengen FA20aa RR in my 2007 VFR today....now won't start!!!!!!
Background, I've done 2 other such conversions on my bikes, no problem. The Bbke was working fine before install. I just normally upgrade RRs on bikes with the older types. I wired this direct to battery, and simply disconnected removed old RR, left original RR wiring in place but obviously not connected. There was 5th black wire from the original RR that joins up with an RR positive, and leads to stop relay and fuel cut off relay. I read somewhere on this forum that needs to be connected, so i ran a temp small guage wire direct from battery to the spade terminal of that black/ then black/white wire. I feel good about all my connections, soldered and crimped. Bike turns over, but no start, seems like no fuel as no fuel aroma, like the ECU is not activating the fuel pump or?? Any ideas. Again bike ran fine before the switch, guess i "tuned it to a standstill".

Re: above post....solved my problem....a real DUH moment.
After studying the manual, studying all my wiring etc, i finally realized that the ground wire to my Power Commander was disconnected, Its always the simplest things. Felt a little stoopid, but i had not installed the Power Commander and never really followed up how/where it was wired.

Per Jack from Roadster Cycle "Also the black wire comes from the ignition not to the ignition, it’s a R/R excitation wire that the Mosfet does not use."
I installed a Mosfet Shindengen RR and simply ignored this black wire per Jacks info, wired RR direct to battery, did not tap or power into black wire, all is fine.

Hey Bob. How the hell are you?

I may be down in your area soon. My last day in y hospital is tomorrow. My wife is in school in Cerritos so I'm looking around the LA OC area.
