piston rings

    hi I took my vf 500 f2 engine to be re worked & rebuilt and they keep coming up wiith the same bullshit excuse carnt get the piston rings well whats every 1 else when they do rebuilds ? can any 1 tell me the size cos im sick of there excuses

    Can't offer much help but you could try find Wiseco or something similar. You may have to spring for a set of pistons and rings though.

    Don't think they are bullshitting you. Rings for the VF500 are almost certainly unobtainable now (along with many other parts) Your best bet is a second hand engine to either transplant or use as a donor. If David Silver Ltd. doesn't have the rings then your only hope is Ebay but you very rarely, if ever see rings come up for sale.

    For a real Heath Robinson fix, get a set of car rings that fit the bore and have them ground down on a surface grinder (or even try find bike rings that would fit) . I have done this to get a bike running before but I sold it soon thereafter so I can't say how long it would have lasted. The guy I sold it to was aware of it but was planning a full blown restoration so he probably changed them,

    Getting car rings is always going to be difficult, not many 4 cylinder 500cc cars out there with small diameter pistons

    Good point, hadn't thought of that. It's a pretty agricultural fix at the best of times.
