    This morning I went to back my bike out to go for a ride and saw oil dripping out of the fairings. On the right side of my 2005 VFR, I traced the oil leak to this spot in the pic.

    To get a bit of orientation to the location of the oil leak;

    I know that this is basically a drain for the center of the engine and I have yet to tear into it, but ideas? My oil is within the standard level and I just changed it, taking care to not over fill it. FML, I don't need any problems right now.

    Could be from the airbox drain, in which case it's normal, as small amounts of oil are constantly being blown into it.

    Normal oil from airbox drain? My 2003 has this same issue and it is wicked hot right now (mid 80s to upper 90's wiith >50% humidity) maybe this is causing it? My oil is new and at an accurate level. Could the higher temps do this? Is it a problem to solve? I just don't think oil on the ground is normal.

    I lifted the tank and the airbox is pristine. Still at a loss as to why oil is coming from this area. It reappears after about 1 month.

    I can only tell from the pictures but it seems as if the oil may be coming from the gasket that seals the pulse generator wire into the crankcase cover. By the first closeup picture it looks as if it is raised a little bit from being warped and would explain the seeping oil. The rubber gasket itself is part if the wire and cannot be purchased separately (part diagram below). If you clean the area well and monitor it you should see the slow seepage in that area, assuming that this is the source. If it is, removing the right crankcase cover and applying a little RTV sealant might remedy it. You will probably need to replace the cover's gasket once removed and to have to be attentive to tightening the cover's bolts in sequence and to the right torque values, which I believe are about 10 ft/lbs.

    cover gasket 11394-MCW-000 $12.00
    pulse generator 30300-MBG-003 $57.00

    Update: I took mine to the mechanic and they called after a few days (took a while to get to I guess!) and they said nothing major and that a bunch of the crossing hoses and clamps for the coolant were going. They also tore it down to the throttle bodies and are replacing those hoses (not sure why or if it's because they had a bunch of coolant on them or what, will find out when I pick it up). The did not have to crack into the engine as spark plugs and head gasket tested fine. Overall about 6-7 hours of labor and 40-50 bucks in parts. It's going to be expensive, but not nearly as expensive as a new head gasket or engine or bike.

    Hope yours is just a simple. Good luck!
