So to add to this. Invoiced above. Just received this today. I paid on the Monday after June 6th though.

I received it all, hopefully. Initial inspection shows the rear shock still dirty. Like it was pulled off a junk bike, hosed off, stickered, re-sprung, and sent to me. The hose looks original, almost cracked. The lower bearing was not greased, nor was it replaced. It is kind of jumpy like it should have been replaced.

    I will inspect more tomorrow.

Still waiting on the front end, almost two months after initially ordering. Contacted Jamie last week about it with no reply.

Jamie and I have had our differences concerning suspension manufacturers and vendors.....but this seems out of character for him.

I think he may be spreading himself too thin, along with having supplier issues for the fork parts. He mentioned problems in both areas when I put my order in.

I'm a firm believer in Ohlins, Traxxion Dynamics, and MB1.....but it all comes down to economics for a vast majority of people. I hope it all works out for you.

Traxxion at both ends would cost more than half of what I paid for my bike...as great as it would be, I don't believe that's worth it.

I've found Jamie to be an honourable man to deal with but I think he does head overseas occasionally and as a one man band, when he's not there nothing gets done. Having said that he was very helpful when I phoned him up once.

I guess you get what you pay for- I think I will get a brand new penski or koni or any real good shock for the back. I am in no rush as the stock suspension seems to be ok for my weight as I don't weigh half a ton:whoops: oh I adj front fork when the shop puts my new denso .05 spark plugs in. I do little things first-maybe I can even ride the bike today-I will for sure:bug:

Hey fellas, just wanted to pop in here to say thanks for your patience. Things can get hectic and keeping up with phone calls and emails is a challenge - especially during the first 9 months of the year. I always post on my Facebook page in December about considering doing work then because lead times are short, but most people are like me and procrastinate.

Email is usually best because answering the phone is not always easy when the CNC machine is running. Please rest assured that I will respond as soon as I can!

Thanks for checking in Jamie! If I'd have known I was getting my new bike back in the winter, I definitely would have gotten the ball rolling then, but either way, I'll be happy to get the rest of my order whenever it's ready.

The question now is, does Norcalboy produce anything other than a subtext for the forthcoming book "How To Be Bitchy For Dummies" ?

Hey! Got the final piece to the puzzle yesterday! The upper mount for the rear shock. Supposedly it was in the box. If I still find it, I will send one back to Jamie. Can't wait to get this set-up. That will make all three of my bikes suspension set to my weight. CBR completed locally, Ohlins on the GROM done by myself. I might do half and half on the VFR, have the local shop install the cartridge kit on the VFR.

The cartridge kit should be a breeze. I had Jamie rebuild the shock on my '09 and I installed the internal components on the forks. This was a couple years ago before his cartridge kits so it was a complete hands on task. I had to remove the shims, valves and replace the entire setup piece by piece. Although I'm no stranger to wrenching, it wasn't too difficult, but JD's new kits are supposed to be pretty much drop in. If you did the Grom yourself you should be able to do the VFR forks no problem.

I heard from Jamie last night...with a shipping notice for my fork kit! :triumphant: OOTV if you've got anything specific to look out for when installing it, I'm all ears. I've assisted with changing fork seals before, but I've never done any maintenance on the front end entirely myself, and I'm a little daunted by it. Anything I need to look out for?

The biggest trick is getting the bolts that hold the cartridge in, they are sometimes a trick to get broken loose. Best bet is to use an impact driver to break them loose. Note that once the bolt is removed, the will trickle out, if the top cap has been removed however, the oill will rush out! Be prepared to capture it.

Other than that, since his kits come preassembled, it should be pretty straight forward. Remove the bolt, remove the innards, put new kit it, fill with new fluid and button it up. The only other thing you need to be sure of is setting the oil level. There are several tricks but the easiest way is with a syringe. They have them at Cycle Gear and most MC shops. Some use a turkey baster, it's cheap readily available and easy to use.

Do I have to separate the tubes or pull the seals to get the new cartridges in?

No. Once the innards are pulled, you just drop the new stuff in. As I mentioned earlier, the hardest part is the retaining bolts. Once you got those loosened and removed the rest should be a breeze. If you really aren't comfortable doing this I get it, just figured you could save some money doing it yourself. You may want to grab some new bolts and crush washers in advanced, just in case you have trouble with the bolts. With an impact wrench, it's usually quick and easy. Note that the hex driver you will need to use needs to be a bit long. I'll see if I can measure the ones I have. I think they are from Harbor Freight.

Good to know. For some reason I thought I had to pull the tubes apart, but that's much easier and something I ought to be able to do myself. Hopefully they should be here by Monday and I can report back.
