Awe. it just so happened I came upon a Corbin seat for the 5th gen I just got, and for the money it was a no brainier, that being it also came with the back rest. My question is after looking around both on Google and Corbins web site, when I pull the back rest out obviously this leaves a square hole. Doh! what's around or missing here to plug it so it doesn't look so unfinished?

: ( their 5th gen seat has the comfort and ergonomics of a concrete park bench. Is there anyway you could return it?

I loved my Corbin on my 5th Gen. They are designed for those of us with huge packages and wear Trojan Magnums. So its no surprise that most people find them uncomfortable. :)

But it had no back rest to begin with. For all the time I spent keeping my paint and bike sparkling new looking, I never did address that hole.

The accuracy of that statement is subjective, V4. Love my Corbin seat. Supportive yet seems to have just the right amount of "give". Corbin seats start out hard. You gotta break 'em in.

My VFR came with the Corbin seat and backrest. I also noticed the hole and nothing to plug it with when I removed the backrest. So I put the backrest back on, problem solved, for me anyway. But I don't know if there is something to plug it with.

Just talked with the Corbin folks. They were some what perplexed as there is suppose to be a Velcro flap of sorts sewn in, so when you pull the back rest out you fold over this flap and it sticks velcro wise. Mine doesn't look like it ever had it. So maybe this seat used the back rest full time??? in that they said to add flap piece it would take a new cover it sewen in from the back side and if they were to do that then the gel foam seat pad is also replace all at a 60% off original pricing LOL..

That's good to know, thanks for checking. All of the Corbin seats I've seen before had that flap, so I was a little perplexed too, but I like everything just the way it is so I'll just leave the backrest on.

Why not glue some velcro to the seat (with a hole it it, of course), and cut a piece ov black leather (or vinyl, I suppose), glue the hook part of the velcro to the vinyle and make a cover? Should just as good as the factory cover.

Since the Corbin tag does not match the seatcover material. Finding some material to fabricate a cover for that hole should be a piece of cake. Looks to be aboot maybe 4 square inches. That big a chunk or combined chunks of Velcro IMO would not have to be sewn on. Fabric and craft stores have a shitload of iron on patches from American Flags to Hello Kitty patches that can be attached with some Velcro.

Don't toss oot your stock seat. You will discover Rich' s Seats Just a few miles North of Olympia and your problems with the Corbin will be solved. All it will take is money.

Awe, Badbilly you are top of it. ;) I have an idea in the works (if) it pans out I'll post a photo.. On a different note, I took the Viffer out last night, Oh what an evening too, that's another subject. I've still gota get a feel what this corbin seat thing is all about. I've never sat on one for any length of time on a VFR, did on a super hawk and cbrXX and wasn't impressed. Hmmm,,, not so sure I get it. guess I got give it some seat time. LOL ,that'll be difficult. ;)

I am well known for other than the missionary position too..;)

Corbin started oot just fine. Mike Corbin was on top of it. The company did well, maybe too well. They started hiring illegals, cutting corners and raising prices. Had a Corbin on the mach 1. It was OK, this was in early 1990s Horse traded it for a seat cowl with a guy on the East Coast. Already had two seats by Rich on the BMW and the SR. Saved up my pesos and got another for the mach 1.

A little more.. Velcro comes in several types. There's a marine/industrial grade that will hold radios to bulkheads. Sewing is good but if that is not in the mix, use contact cement. Most folks do not RTFM . Contact cement should take a minimum of two coats on each surface. The analogy is like priming for painting. The solvent for the stuff is toluene. The function when used right is adhesion and then cohesion. Even when the fractional solvent has evaporated the two mating surfaces are still for want of a better word, sticky. Push those puppies together and they will bond.
