hey had a question on the older vf750's, is there any known wiring problems on the 84 vf750f, i just bought this bike and the second i got it home the turn signals dont work, the front light up but wont blink and the rear bulbs dont do anything, ive checked the rear bulbs and the filaments are fine, any thoughts?

Sounds like your rear lights are not hooked up. Check the wires under the seat going to them. Also, I'd replace or test the bulbs in a working light, just to be sure they are good.

last night i pulled everything apart, i did find where some mice had chewed up some wiring and i fixed the damaged wiring but it didnt make any difference, i used my multimeter and found im not getting any voltage to the rear turn signal bulbs but the ground was good, so now im going to have to follow the wiring harness up to the front.... yay im assuming the switch itself is good because the front turn signals both light up as they should except for the flashing part, hopefully the repair manual w/ wiring diagrams i ordered this past week will be here shortly, any other idea's?

Replace your flasher relay. Universal one from an autoparts store should work fine.

I agree with Mason...mostly...your bike's front turnsignals do double duty as running lights. That's why there's three wires to the front instead of two. If your running lights work, it doesn't mean your turnsignals will. If you want to verify the flasher is the problem before buying one, unplug it, turn on the key and either turnsignal...then short the white/green and grey wires on the flasher relay coupler (paper clip 'll work). The turn signals on that side should come on, of course they won't flash. If they don't, there's other issues. If they do, your flasher has failed. I've put plenty in that vintage of Hondas...I prefer the Honda flasher, now updated to a solid state unit. A bit spendy but you'll only replace it once.

so where is this flashing relay located, my wiring diagram hasnt shown up yet so ive been fending for myself, im not sure if this would be a symptom of that or not but i did narrow my problem down a little bit in the fact that im not getting any power what so ever coming off of the turn signal switch, and there is continuity between the the blue orange and green wires up front with the wires in the back, i also found one of my green wires and a brown wire up by the headlight that were just empty female sockets, nothing was plugged into them and there are no other loose wires around, i really wish my wiring diagram were here....

hey, does anyone know whether there is some switch or something that requires the engine to be running for the turn signals to work? when i went to look at the bike originally they did work and the engine was running when i tried it, i dont think ive tried the blinkers when the the engine was running since i bought it, id test this but im still waiting on a fuel line before i can fire it back up any thoughts?

If your battery is good and hot, they should blink with only the key on. Shouldn't be necessary to start the engine. A low battery could cause them to come on and not flash. But, both front and rear should come on, not just the front.

I have a similar problem with the 84 Sabre I just got.It had no turn signals when I got it so I got some aftermarket ones for the rear. When I hook the wires up the light lights, like a running light. When I hit the T/S switch the light goes out,and does not blink. When I cancel the T/S,the light goes back on again. This happens on both sides, rear only,I'm waiting to do the 3 wire fronts when the Hondaline fairing I won on Ebay gets here as there are OEM front signals available.Dizzy,it sounds like you've spent a fair amount of time inside these things, please share your thoughts with me.Anyone else that has some thoughts on this are welcome too...TIA...

Hi iam new on here and i have a 1983 v45 vf750c magna with blinker problems as well. I was reading your reply and seen that you have replaced the flasher relay with the solid state unit. Would you happen to have the part number of it ? And or where i can find one for my bike ?
    Thank you

You can get a 3 connector turn signal "Relay" at most any auto parts store. A "Flasher" is the thermal type.

The guy behind the parts counter will probably not be very helpful unless you provide a vehicle or a part number.

Here's a link to one that should work: http://www.autozone.com/electrical-...signal/duralast-relay-turn-signal/279233_0_0/

It's been YEARS since I've looked at one of the flashers on a V45 Magna, so some minor wiring and crimping may be involved.

Did the Magna come with self-cancelling turn signals like the Sabre did? My '83 Sabre's flasher had a connection to the speedo and would cancel the T/S after 100yds or so. It required an expensive flasher from the Honda Stealer.
