KT- Look into someone who does paintless dent repair. Could try it yourself but it takes tools and a craftsman to use them.

I never dropped my VFR, but I dropped my R1 outside of Kenora, ON for a ridiculous reason... I stopped to adjust my saddlebags, got back on the bike and for some reason, decided to try to look behind me to see if it was safe to rejoin the highway by looking over my LEFT shoulder...

Busted my RH rearset bracket, rode 2 hours to Winnipeg, MB and tried fixing it with metal reinforced JB-weld, after 2 hours of curing it maybe held for 5 minutes with my foot lightly resting on it...

Oh well, gave me an excuse to buy aftermarket rearsets :p

    Hey KentuckyThunder,

This may sound stupid, but when repairing my tank, I first bought a wide range of suction cups and used them as cheap dent pullers. I put the tank out with the dent facing the sun to warm for an hour or so, then attached one or two suction cups (vaseline helps with the suction, no jokes please) to start pulling the dent. It came out to a certain degree before I reached a point where it became necessary to take the tank off. Fortunately, once removed, the hole for the fuel pump is large enough to put a hand through. My local body shop said they could work it out from the inside, thanks to the large hole. Taking it in tomorrow.

Not sure if that helps, but the suction cup thing is cheap fun, and might just work.

JB Weld is OK but not the greatest stuff since rattlecan Velveeta. What the pitch is, the stuff is the color of metal. JB Weld is also a group of resin based fixer upper in a tube products. ...and it really doesn't weld a damn thing.

I wonder If a carbon fiber (real) wrap would work? I haven't worked with the stuff- yet.

Thanks, guys. Helpful info. I started thinking that a tank bra, which I haven't used or bought in decades (think they went out of style in the late 90's) would actually be a good cover for the damage so I don't have to necessarily fix it. I'm not selling the thing so I'm not concerned about the slight loss on the resale value, just don't want to see it everytime I roll my bike out. Targa makes a nice looking one for about $45 and it would help save the finish, too.

I was just using it as a "get home" repair, I knew it wouldn't be a permanent fix, even if it had worked... as it was I ended up riding over 4 hours minus my right-hand rearset... :(

I'm not sure - so can't make any promises - but I might have a tank bra at home. I had one for my 2000, but never used it. Question is whether or not its piled up somewhere or if I tossed it.

Don't hold your breath, but if I still have it, its your for the taking. No pesos required. I'll check tonight when I get home.

Pliskin, I appreciate the thought. That was a generous offer. Know what sucks about this? I just got this pristine ride that was in flawless condition; for 17 years it was obsessively cared for. 18k miles.

I get it and drop it within the first 30 days. Freakinmuthagodblamitshit!

And I'm a veteran rider who is very methodical. I'll get over it. Besides, it gives me the chance to put something new on the bike. It doesn't really need much...cruise control and heated grips are about it.

Not VFR? No matter. They all fall and hit the same planet. Got you added. Are there two of you from the "Camp" here on this site?

Fawking Guddam Mudda fugger sumbiuch. DId it again. This time actually in my garage.

    IMGP1934.jpg

I have been building an oak book case for my son in the garage for the past week or so. Been trying to keep the garage relatively clean and bringing the bike back in at the end of every day. But for the past few days, there has been a lot of planing, routing, grinding, and sanding through 3 grits to 220grit. So even after blowing as much dust out (onto my neighbours cars no less) enough settles back onto the floor.

I was trying to maneuver the bike around this shit and foot slipped in the dust and I could not hold it up. Down the bitch went. Fortunately there wasn't even any scratches on it.
